Just returned from a two day stay at Hotel Portobelo. We were pleased to find they are upgrading and maintaining the hotel. There were new towels and new sheets and new comforters and pillows and new window coverings as well. Congratulations! Makes us even more committed to stay at this beautifully located hotel.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms X01 and X02 as the maid's station is directly across the hall and they are...

We had two different rooms in this hotel, in the first one everything was perfect. Very clean, big room, a little noisy because of the location. But the second room had no internet at all. Which is terribly annoying when you're trying to look for information on where to go, what to do, or simply want to communicate with people you have to meet.

I also didn't understand why they don't let you call cell phones from the hotel. I offered to pay for the call but apparently it's just not an option.

Hopefully they will improve the internet service because the location of this hotel is just perfect, close to everything. Walking distance to Chapultepec, you're right there at the 'subway,' really close to downtown.

Room Tip: check the internet in your room as soon as you check in, if they have availability, they might be ab...

I stayed one night. Had a good-sized comfortable room and slept well. Breakfast buffet was OK, but not spectacular; omelets were available upon request. The hotel is near the junction of the north-south and east-west subway lines. About a six-block walk to Expiatorio Temple, a church with a noteworthy clock tower. Not much else to report since I had no problems.

Friendly receptionist

Wifi was slow

I was unable to respond to email from hotel saying my card had been declined. (booked over 150 nights with bookingdotcom)I was unable to contact them till I got to the hotel as Id spent the last 30 hours in the air. I emailed them to reply to the email they had sent stating Id loose my room by 6pm. I got the confirmation saying everything was fine. I could pay on arrival. So I assumed everything was fine. When I arrived they upped the price which seemed massively unfair to me. I checked the hotel vacancies on bookingdotcom and they have over 14 rooms left that night. So in the end, I paid more because a problem at there end. I dont carry cash! I always use my card-Never had an issue. Accept for this. I kinda think the problem was at there end and I had to pay extra for it in the end for a mediocre room. Room service food was below average. View from room was a wall. Over priced. Ive stayed in better hostels in Guadalajara. Car Park was very secure

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking onto the Park. If your going to eat! Try a few of the great restaurants in th...

We stayed here for 4 nights & found the location very central & easy to find. We got the local bus from the long distance bus station then had a 10 minute walk. The hotel is modern with lots of amenities in the room. Our room was huge with a great bed, sofa, fantastic hot shower plus lots of extras such as safe, toiletries, hair dryer etc. The room looked onto a very busy road & junction but was very quiet. The staff were very friendly especially housekeeping who were very helpful. We had breakfast one morning which wasn't great so I'd recommend eating out somewhere else (especially Cafe Madrid). There were some great bars & places to eat very local & we felt safe walking around late at night. I would definitely stay there again.

On a three day trip to Jalisco we stayed at the portobelo hotel
Located in the downtown area, it's within reach to a lot of vital places to get your business done
It's clean, rooms are nice and staff as well
The only draw back was the downtown area it's self
The hotel was on a higher scale than its surroundings

This is a fantastic little hotel in the centro historico area of Guadalajara. It is on the corner of Juarez (a main street of the city) and looks over parque revolucion and is a couple of blocks from guadalajara university and expiatorio church, which has a metro station that can connect you to the market or downtown, if you don't feel like the pleasant 10-15 min walk down juarez. The room we stayed in was clean, with a very large bed, cable tv, water bottles, nice toiletries and a clean, modern bathroom. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel was quiet, you could not hear any noise from the streets below, however you could hear people walking in the corridor, but this was not an issue as other guests were very quiet. Improvements to this hotel should include a fridge in rooms. A very pleasant stay.
