“Best Hotel near the expo”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

Excellent hotel, the rooms are large and very comfortable. Wonderful beds, nice shower, room safe, great views. Wonderful breakfast. Negative would be the elevators that can be frustratingly slow and getting into the breakfast room on a sunday where there is a line of locals. Sort of informal lobby which is good if you don't have much luggage. Plenty of restaurants nearby for lunch or dinner as the restaurant hotel is too expensive and the cafe is way too pre-packaged oriented. Nice options for staying late or getting a room on the executive floor.

there is no restaurant review for the RIU hotel in gdl so I have to place this review on the hotel section.
I had the pleasure of having breakfast at the RIU restaurant for the 2nd time and I must share with all of you. This is probably the most expensive breakfast if you are not a guest at the hotel but worth every peso. You have a choice of having breakfast inside or on their patio that has a smoking area. You begin with a fresh squeezed orange juice and if you want another one you simply ask the waiter/waitress.... the is no extra charge for it. you make your way to the buffet area and ask for your omelet or what ever way you would like your eggs with what ever sides you wish. everything is made right in front of you , then you make your way to the bakery section and choose your pastry . they also have a fresh fruit bar.
you are welcomed to have another tasty dish I you wish.

The Riu is a first class hotel. Nice rooms with wonderful views. The only reason for me not to give 5 stars is that it is just not my style. It is a very modern hotel and to me feels a little cold. Staff always helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet is outstanding with a wide range of choices. In my opinion bypass the restaurant in the hotel for dinner. With all of the magnificent food in GDL no reason to eat there unless you have to. The pool area is very nice even just to sit out enjoy the evening with a drink. I have stayed there a number of times on business trips and have yet to be dissapointed.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for one of the upper floors when checking in if you are looking for the great views...

Enjoyed staying in this nice new clean hotel. Comfortable and spacious room, free Internet and a great buffet breakfast. Minibar was stocked with complementary pairs of water, soda and even beer (2 cans only!) Views over the city and surrounding hills were impressive. Only negative was small gym -- limited machines only.

I have stayed in RIU hotels all the time and unfortunately this has been nothing like the other Riu's I have been to. The check in was horrible. I arrived in the morning and they couldn't find my reservation. After waiting a very long time, I finally had to leave to work and left my luggage with the hotel. They told me they would find my resevation and deliver my luggage to my room. I arrived after a very long and tiring day of work only to find out that they had dropped the ball and no room and no luggage. Again., after a long wait they finally gave me a room and I was woken up by a call at 3am that they had found my luggage. The room is small and it smells like it hasn't been ventilated in ages. I ordered a tortilla espanola for breakfast and it was really bad. Definitely not worth the money you pay. Plus

Stayed here for 5 nights.

Best things:
1. Try their aguachile shrimp at the pool bar they are the best I have ever had.
2. Breakfast buffet totally worth getting up for they have stuff for everyone.
3. Free wifi.
4. Gym and steamroom access included with your stay.
5. Free stuff in the mini bar.
6. Across the street you can exchange money.
7. Oxox across the street.
8. 4 different areas to eat in the hotel.
9. There are two small stores in the hotel one sells food the other sells all sorts of stuff like pain pills, razors, jewelry, and bathing suites.
10. They offer spa treatments, hair salon services and nail services.

Not so great:
1. Water from sinks not safe to drink.
2. Bad plumbing- while taking a shower you might get a blast of really hot or cold water.
3. Thin walls
4. You need to drive to get to the more walkable areas.

First time in Guadalajara. Business trip, great property. Rooms are top notch, service was great and would reccommend this to anyone. And the breakfast buffet had a wide range of American and local items that would satisfy anyone....Remember, hotels con;t exchange currency so get local pesos when you enter the country or from ATM's or other local exchanges.

The only negative was that evening food options were limited and uninspired. Almost like banquet food.
