“The Displays were interesting, nice gift shop”
Reviewed 5 November 2011

Some interesting information on the Huichol. Aspects of the religion, history, living structures, and clothing are covered briefly. Don't expect a large museum. It's only $10 pesos ( about USD $.80 ) The gift shop has lots of jewelry, masks, and tapestries. I can't comment on whether the prices are good, as I didn't shop around.

“Museo Huichol, Zapopan - GO”
Reviewed 10 June 2011

Facing the Basilica on the far right next to the banos (2p). Closed for siesta (2-4 pm). There are pieces Approx 16 inches square that will fit into your luggage (that's approx. 16"x16') . The Huichols have figured this one out. These pieces are 800P. Try to take correct pesos. The attendant is very sweet and tries to juggle change. Be aware, each artist has their own peso envelope for the pesos for their art. They have great decorated deer heads at 550P. Fragile. I dropped my bag within 500' of the door. Hopefully superglue will ressurect a broken off antler. Deer head now nostalgia value. Lots of more cheaply priced stuff. The actual museum is neat but dark. Your eyes will adjust. My entrance fee was waived cause I was buying. Out on the street there's a great refresca stand that sells a frsh limeonade with chia for 15P. Not sweet ,Very refreshing. Next to cab stand. The whole area, basilica and all , is outstanding. Just walk and enjoy.

I didn't know the museum was even there, but could not leave Zapopan without stopping by. The artwork and information displayed is amazing.

“Sala de Arte Museo/Huichol Museum in Zapopan”
Reviewed 9 January 2009

I have been to the Guadalajara area three times. All three times I went to the Huichol Museum and stayed from opening to closing. It IS very small, if all you want is a look-see, you only need about 1/2 hour. But for enthusiats of Huichol Arte, this is the place to go. The work is of the highest quality. The work cannot be purchased by heading to any street vender. The pieces are incredibly inexpensive as compared to the cost here in the US. Pieces sold for $50 go for roughly $300 in the US. The $100 dollar pieces go for about $600 in the states. If you want to see and or buy pieces of this incredible art form, the humble museum is the place to go.

“It is humble and beautiful!”
Reviewed 12 December 2005

It is a humble place. Nothing fancy. It cost me fifteen pesos to enter. It is relatively small but it has beautiful art work. You can see their history through their eyes. The woman in charge is interesting. The art work is not too cheap, but you can go to the Plaza and negotiate prices there. You can also return to the store to buy an item. I loved the colorful pieces that were above the store.
