“Made us want to run a B&B”
Reviewed 17 April 2014 via mobile

Excellent. Just perfect.

Claudia, the owner was friendly and super helpful, going way above and beyond what was expected. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

The atmosphere was perfect, with a beautiful communal area, dining area, and a spotless kitchen.

The rooms were immaculate. Huge (I mean HUGE) beds, pillows soft, lockable cupboards/wardrobes for valuables. Toilets very clean and good showers. Rooms were nice and cool.

Superb value for 500pesos per night for a double (incl breakfast).

Lovely rooftop terrace.

This place was so nice it made us want to own and run a B&B ourselves. Claudia and your staff, thanks very much for a lovely stay.

During my traveling through Mexico I stayed three times at this wonderful place and there is a reason why I returned two times: Casa VilaSanta is the perfect place to hang out, to meet new people and make friends. It is located close to the city centre, it is very clean and staff is very helpful, open-minded and interested in getting to know people from all around the world. The rooms are clean, there are privates as well as dorms. Dorms only host up to 4 people and they are seperate according to sex. There are always people who stay there to attend Spanish class -as I did -, so people also get the chance to get to know each other a bit better. One way to meet other residents there is the huge and well-equipped kitchen, another the wonderful open terrace which invites you to spend a chilled afternoon in the sun or hang-out in the evening.
I enjoyed my stays there very much. This is greatly due to the kind and helpful people who work there who intend to make your stay a very pleasant one. I found new friends there and I definitely plan to return there for a fourth time and say "hola".

Very good location close to the Uni area with a few bars and restos. Also between between the historic district/downtown and Chapultapec, walking distance to both. Very clean, beautiful building. Nice, clean, big kitchen and well equiped. Really nice atmosphere due in large part to the wonderful staff especially the super friendly Chary. She always has a smile and a hug for you and probably a story or two. Ya conosco casi toda tu vida Chary...jajajajaj...besos!

Location is good, close to a nightlife area. The hostel has firendly staff, there is a large kitchen and a large commom area in a varanda, where is easy to meet new people.
There was a bar right in front of the hotel, so there was loud music on friday nights.

I stayed here for about 6 weeks while I took a Spanish course. My room was cleaned daily, very spacious and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful (thanks Charry) and there is a great roof top balcony to hang out.

I stayed in a private room on the second floor for a couple nights around Thanksgiving, and I´d definitely choose this place again. When a hostel is good like this place, a private room in a hostel is the best of both worlds -you get to socialize with other people, use the kitchen and do laundry, and still have your privacy.

And this place is good. The staff speaks English and the lady who works the front desk in the morning is especially warm and welcoming. Location couldn't be better. There is a computer there for guests to use, for free, though it did break down on my second night. There's also an internet cafe just around the corner, but it closes at 7PM.

Apart from the very attractive courtyard, the rooms themselves are pretty basic. Still, everything works. The room is clean, the towels are soft, hot water runs. Not much in the way of toiletries, but I knew I was staying at a hostel so I brought my own hotel soaps.

The beds are somewhat firm, though I generally slept well.

The hostel fills up with a lot of students who go to the nearby university from other countries in order to get a certificate in teaching English. This is both good and bad. Good, because it keeps things festive even in the low season. And on Thanksgiving, they cooked up a big Thanksgiving meal (everyone was invited). But on the flipside, you could hear their conversation until 1AM, and those walls are thin! Don't think it's an everyday thing though.

Know, however, that while there is A/C, there is no heat. This is generally not a problem in Guadalajara, but in the dead of winter it might be.

Minor issues aside, 4 stars for atmosphere and value.

Words can't describe how awesome this place is. Very affordable, clean, and really a home away from home! The staff are awesome, friendly, and just super people! This is my second stay here, and this is my home! Close in to everything there is to love in the old center of Guadalajara! Welcome home!
