The Basilica is truly amazing. The interior is decorated with gilding, many lovely statues, and of course, the most famous one, of the Virgin. There are many heavy and huge crystal chandeliers from France, an old pipe organ, hand-carved confessionals, beautiful oil paintings, and many altars, just like the grand cathedrals of Europe. Don't miss this if you are in Guanajuato.

“Attractive urban setting”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

Walking up Av. juarez to Plaza de la Paz, we have a great view of the exterior of the church, all full of volumes, domes, towers. See the statue for Our lady of Guanajuato displayed (sometimes)at the high altar.

“Decor like whoah”

Guanajuato is not a very big city, but it offers many attractions, including this church. You certainly can't miss it - it's bright yellow exterior stands out even in a colorful place like Guanajuato. Take a step inside to see an amazingly decorated interior - full of chandeliers, detailed ceiling painting, and gold. The place shines.

Very much like the great churches of Europe, but with a truly Mexican spirit. The center of Guanajuato.

What a beautiful cathedral, so much gold and it is very large. The builder had a large amount of gold taken from the backs of the poor Indians for over 300 hundred years.
