“Exquisite Jewel Outside Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2013

Easy to get to by taking the bus (camion) marked "Valenciana". The interior altarpieces are, according to art-history sources, amongst the most beautiful in Mexican churrigueresque style. The altarpieces are dedicated to San Cayetano, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the Assumption. Nearby are several old mines, including La Valenciana, now run by a group related to the University of Guanajuato.

“For Serious Church Lovers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2013

This area was established by the Valencia family of silver mining fame. The Valencia hacienda is across the street from the church and also worth walking around. The interior courtyard has a small cafe, shop and candy store and is free to browse around. The church itself is not large by standard but is very ornate and requires time to study all the gilded features and paintings. A small donation is expected at the end of your walk through. Worth seeing for sure.

As part of a tour, the guide provided us with great background information on this beautiful temple. He explained the reason behind the three paintings and the beautiful altar.

“Well Worth the Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2013

It's not in the center of town, but a definite must see for anyone with any appreciation for the beauty of that comes from the meticulous decoration of such exemplifications of Spanish Baroque Architecture. It doesn't take long to get there nor to see it which makes anyone who went to Guanajuato but missed this church truly deprived.

“Speechless”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2013

Though it's quite far from city center but it's worth the travel. I took the bus for downtown and paid 5 pesos. It's an adventure to be with the locals. Very friendly . But the church was a wonderful work of art, very intricate wood work. One MuST really see.
