Casa Estrella de la Valenciana
Ranked #10 of 83 Guanajuato B&B and Inns
Reviewed 23 May 2012

We wish we would have had more time to enjoy everything Casa Estrella de la Valenciana and Guanajuato has to offer. As beautiful as Casa Estrella itself is (and it's gorgeous!) it's the people who make your stay special. Janet and the staff were fantastic. The rooms are super-comfortable and well-appointed, the breakfasts yummy, the art & decor creates a special ambience. Everything is first class. We also appreciated the quality of the bedding - these are not your standard hard beds you normally find in Mexico. There are nice touches like coffee and tea ready whenever you want, a pantry with healthy snacks, many interesting books everywhere, even a tasteful selection of nice art and local crafts at good prices for those last minute gifts. One of the reasons we chose the Casa Estrella was for the pool and hot tub but we were so busy enjoying Guanajuato we never swam! Its location on a hill overlooking the city not only affords spectacular views of the city but a level of tranquility hard to find in the urban center. I could go on but you get the idea: The place is great. The owners, manager and staff are remarkable. The city is a treasure. It's a testament to any B&B that you leave feeling you have a "home" and new friends, people you look forward to spending more time with. That's what Casa Estrella was for us. We can't wait to go back!

We had a wonderful time at Case Estrella. It's located on a hill overlooking Guanajuato - very quiet and peaceful; a short inexpensive cab ride takes you into town. The staff is warm and accommodating - the breakfasts are delicious and enormous - the rooms are impeccably designed with furniture and accessories from all over Mexico. Javier gave us a private full-day tour of the surrounding towns and sites; Sharon, Juan, Janet and Edith couldn't have been pleasanter or more fun. Now all our friends want to visit, too.

What can I say was the best of casa estrella? -- has to be the warmth of the staff and their commitment to make one feel at home. A close second was the physical beauty of the inn - -the breathtaking view and the quality of the accommodation.

We took our bichon frise puppy Lexi with us -- and she received extra special treatment from all.

Room Tip: we stayed in the large room on the lower level by the swimming pool (the san bernabe suite) -- it co...

Casa Estrella is a stunning, small hotel overlooking the picturesque town of Guanajuato. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Alicia and Angelica make the most amazing Mexican breakfasts (be sure to ask for enchiladas de pollo! or huevos a la mexicana). Janet the general manager made sure everyone was happy and had what they needed at all times. I will be coming back very soon, but on vacation next time! Thanks to all Casa Estrella, including Edith, Adan and Javier.

My husband and I stayed at Villa Estrella for three nights in February 2012. Guanajuato was one of a selection of colonial cities we visited and by the end of the trip, our favourite city.
Villa Estrella is located on a hill and is just a short and inexpensive taxi ride to the city centre. For people who appreciate rooms with views, this B&B certainly delivers. Villa Estrella is an architecturally and structurally impressive building. Although the design and decor are elegant and carefully conceived, the ambience of the hotel is personal and helpful.
The breakfasts typify the hotel's approach to hospitality. They are served in different locations (dining room, living room corner, patio), depending on the number of guests and the weather, and the presentation and food are an appealing mix of Mexican, European and American influences. Everything about the rooms, grounds and service is high end, delivered with professionalism and warmth.
Guanajuato is a visual delight. Located in a steep river valley, it is city of narrow, twisting streets, subterranean tunnels, majestic Baroque churches, pastel painted houses, charming and intimate plazas, cobblestone streets, and museums with stunning, and sometimes grotesque, wall murals that depict the country's history.
Guanajuato is a city for walking and there is plenty to see and savour. When your legs tire, ask Janet (our excellent host) to arrange a driver to take you to a silver mine, pottery studio, hacienda garden and/or the mummy museum.
Guanajuato is a romantic, enchanting and intriguing travel destination and returning to Villa Estrella at the end of the day brings a fitting closure to the pleasure of exploring such a jewel.

The Casa Estrella is a beautiful 'boutique' hotel without the pretense. It is a beautiful well appointed hotel. The hotel markets itself as a B&B. It's much more than that. The staff was caring, attentive and talented. I'm not a breakfast person. But every morning the chef presented Mexican breakfasts that were fresh, beautiful and oh so delicious. I became a breakfast person every day of my stay!!!

Make sure to stop and meet the Manager Jan. She's a treasure alone, with great advice and suggestions to make your trip fun filled or laid back.

The views are spectacular. The town of Guanajuato is historic and inviting. For the adventurous there are daredevil downhill mountain bike runs. For the less adventuous theirs great shopping.

I came on business but I'll be back for simple joy next time.

Room Tip: All the rooms have great views. The Casita is a house unto itself with great views from each bedroom...

Our 5 day stay at Casa Estrella was truly beyond our expectations. Our enjoyment of Mexico and Guanajuato was greatly enhanced by the beautiful grounds and comfortable living space of this Bed and Breakfast. Our host Janet was gracious. The staff was friendly. The food was delicious. Our living space was comfortable. Janet went far out of her way to arrange guides and give us suggestions for our travels. We felt very safe. The view from Casa Estrella is breathtaking, as it is perched atop a hill overlooking the city. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the house. This is definitely the right place to go for a romantic getaway. My wife loved it and she started out very skeptical about this trip. I will recommend Casa Estrella to all my friends who may be thinking of a trip to Mexico.

Room Tip: Our room started with an S. I don't remember. But it was excellent. Seperate bathroom, bedroom...
