We were in Guanajuato over a public hotel and the town was booked out, so this was more or less the only room left in town. On the plus side, the hotel is set high above the town so you get fabulous views over the old town. Guanajuato was heaving when we were there and the centre of town would have been noisy - up on the hill it was quiet.
However, the downside is that you are not in the centre of town. You can use the funicular to get down which is about 10 minutes walk away. Unfortunately, it seems to close pretty early (we went to get it back up at around 9.15pm one evening and it was shut.) The other option is to walk down one of the pedestrian lanes that run down the hill - this is worth doing - you get the views and the lanes are picturesque. If you do that it's a 25 - 30 minute walk into the centre of town, but all through interesting lanes and streets, so no hardship. And actually, it's not as bad as you think walking back UP the hill - honestly!
The other downside of the location is that although the hotel provides breakfast (OK) there is no hotel restaurant in the evening and nothing much else close by, so it's a trip into town to eat.
Apart from the views, the hotel itself is pretty average. Although our room had had a coat of paint recently, the whole atmosphere was slightly run down and dejected. And there was a plastic sheet under the sheet on the bed - it was clean but, really, just a bit nasty for grownups!
