You must know ahead of time, these are real mummies, if you don't want to see dead bodies preserved don't go! I was hesitant but liked the stories that were posted next to some of the bodies: who they were how they died...I thought this was a great way to honor deceased! Then the last hall is turned into a spook house, they use dead bodies to to try and get a scare out of you. I thought this just did tan injustice to the whole tour, the people and the families of the deceased! I would never recommend to anyone. Sad.

What else can I say? This place was one of our sole reasons for visiting Guanajuato. It is a splendid old town with much more than old dried skin to charm you, but this is what I am writing about. One can visit the spooky confines of the northern hemispheres premier mummy mall by simply walking from town. Signs are in english as well as spanish. The history of the museums desiccated subjects are each individual. None are too old, and one is relatively modern. This is a fascinating place to wander for an hour. Just take in the unique sights before you and feel the significance. An amazing place, for certain.

Both interesting and disturbing, Guanajuato's Museum Of The Mummies is worth the trip. A collection of grisly relics, lined up in glass cases in the gloom. Not much information to hand, but enough to get the gist of it and you're close enough to pore over every physical detail, although these poor souls would never have imagined being on public display centuries later and in that way the exhibition has both voyeuristic and poignant qualities.

A party of schoolchildren there at the same time were enjoying themselves, although one or two looked terrified. I imagine there were a few nightmares that night, so it might be worth considering whether it's suitable for any children you may have yourselves!

Cost was 45 pesos for one adult entry plus another 20 to use my camera.
