“Beautiful place in a beautiful setting in historic Marfil.”

The lower rooms and great hall (it really is great) full of antiques and art objects is truly exquisite. The ancient stone architecture really sets off the pieces. The upper hall is a beautiful space and offers just the right atmosphere, lighting and space for optimum viewing the art exhibits. There is a grand piano in the upper hall and I understand that they have concerts, but I have not attended one yet. The acoustics should be perfect though with the domed brick ceiling. The grounds, consisting off by stone terraces on many levels and surrounded by high stone walls remind one of a 'secret garden'. Well worth a visit on your next trip to Guanajuato.

My wife and I frequent Guanajuato. One of the highlights is always the chamber music concerts which occur every Sunday at 1:00 PM, at Casa Museo Gene Byron, in Marfil, a suburb of Guanajuato. Casa Museo Gene Byron is a restored hacienda owned by (now deceased) Canadian artist Gene Byron, and her husband, who supports these concerts, and often attends. The hall seats perhaps 100, with wonderful acoustics. After, everyone is served wine and appetizers in the garden. There is ample opportunity to talk with the artists. And quality artists they are. Sometimes there are small ensambles from the University of Guanajuato Symphony Orchestra. Other times it is touring professionals. It is not to be missed.
