A great tripadvisor found!! Absolutely loved the Casa de las poetas!

The location is stunning, only a few doors down to the birthplace of Diego Rivera and at night with a beautiful view over Guanajuato!

You're very close to the city's attractions - if you want to leave your hotel at all because it's stunning! :)

The staff was overly friendly and always open to give advice on where to go!

The room was not the biggest but the beautiful interior and decoration made up for that.

We also had a nice breakfast buffet which we can recommend and if you want to have fun in Guanajuato don't miss out on a Callejonada which the receptions staff had booked for us and which we absolutely loved!

Go and enjoy Guanajuato, I'd move there any day!!

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in Feb. 2008 and loved it. The hotel itself is a restored colonial mansion a few blocks from the center of town. The room -the Jose Marti Suite was very large and decorated nicely with period paintings. The bed was large and very firm but we like it that way. The bathroom was average size, all tile and had been redone-probably since 1999 when the hotel was dedicated. The room had a small balcony with a spectacular view of Guanajuato and the famous Pipila statue. It did face the street and if you are very sensitive to noise you might be bothered by people passing at night but we were fine. A few nights I heard talking as people passed but quickly went back to sleep. In fact I may have heard them only because I got up to go to the bathroom. We didn't hear church bells at night but on Friday night we did hear some dogs. Breakfast is included and is wonderful- anything you might want. It is served in a beautiful courtyard that is also a gallery for art and photography exhibitions. There is some construction on the roof area and the courtyard roof is covered by a blue tarp- however we didn;t hear any work. Someone wrote earlier that they are building a pool on the roof which would be a nice addition. We spoke to two other couples who were very happy with their rooms. The staff is very nice although not eveyone speaks English which is generally true in Guanajuato. On the last morning we left early and they gave us a box breakfast. All of this for $78 a night.

Good points - perfect location, situated just on the edge of town so you can walk anywhere. Attentive staff. Large, charming room. Good breakfast.

Not so good points - tiny bathroom, noisy on wekends so you'll need earplugs. Lots of steps to get to the rooms.

Our daughter was a student at gto. She booked our stay here after other friends family recommended it. We had a very cute suite with two bedroom, sitting area, small bathroom and kitchenette. Breakfast was good, service was great, very close to downtown area, but not as loud as being right at the center. It was kept very clean and we didn't notice any problem smells. I thought the price we paid was a little high (150 per night), but my daughter made the arrangements and probably just asked for the rack rate and got it. We stayed in some other small mexican towns for a lot less, but this was the nicest non-chain hotel we stayed at. I'd stay there again.

My wife and I went Guanajuato over the Thanksgiving break this past November and stayed at the Meson de Los Poetas. The hotel staff was extremely kind and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and the room was very clean.

The location was excellent and centrally located, yet just far enough away from the center of town to not be super noisy. There area where we had breakfast was beautiful and relaxing every morning.

There is some street noise and you can hear the "Estudiantinas" from time to time or just some over zealous night time partiers from time to time. However, this is Mexico and it is quite normal, so one either needs to embrace it or let it drive them crazy. :-)

There is a bit of sewer smell emitting from the drains but not horrendous enough to drive us away from staying there..

The only issue that bothered me a little bit was that the hot water in the shower only lasted about 5 minutes. After that, it began to get colder by the second.

Overall, we loved the feel, location, and service provided by the hotel and would recommend others to stay there if they every have a chance.
