Review of el Chahuistle

el Chahuistle
Ranked #44 of 254 Restaurants in Guanajuato
Cuisines: Mexican
Description: This is a small corner restaurant run by two women. They serve breakfast and lunch. We have been there twice for lunch and both times ordered the menu, the fixed price multicourse meal. The menu includes an agua fresca, soup, salad, entree with meat, rice and vegetables, and dessert. The food is great Mexican homecooking. Not fancy but simple and full of flavor. Very delicious. Very accessible. There are, of course, a la carte items which we have never tried. I recommend this strongly as a restaurant with authentic flavors of Mexico.

Nothing too attractive here but the location on the corner. Basic decor and food menu, which isn't too bad of a thing, tacos done well. Good meal just nothing special

Not sure if it lives up to the "sweet little place" with "amazing food" and "great food" descriptions. One thing that annoyed our party of 4 was that there were no prices listed on the menu (very rare in our Mexican travels). The young staff ( 3 persons) were friendly, however since we were the only customers in the place, it was concerning to me that: the condiments for my order of tacos arrived well after I finished eating them & their social interactions were a priority & there was no real follow-up to how our meal was going; which seems to be a universal practice. To be fair; my dining partners were more satisfied with their orders. However, after 4 days in Guanajuato a more than mediocre dining experience, with reasonable prices seems hard to find.

I have had breakfast, lunch and dinner at El Chauistle restaurant many times because I just love it!
The price to quality is absolutely great!! Right now there are 4 Chauistles in Guanajuato and the way the places look and how they are decorated is very cool.
I always take my foreigners that visit me (couchsurfing) there and they all love it too!
Great place!!!

This is a sweet little place with amazing food right in the center of Guanajuato. Stumbled upon it while walking around at lunchtime, and the ladies were lovely and very welcoming and the food was very home style made with a lot of pride.

This is one of the very places you can eat at outside for a decent price. The basic rule is, of course, to avoid the plazas, which are usually tourist traps with high prices and bad food (such as La Botellita, Van Gogh, and pretty much anything else on San Fernando plaza). This place has 2 or 3 tables outside, in Cantaranas.
The breakfast combo is 60 pesos and is very decent, with refill coffee. Good value and pleasant.
The rest of the food isnt mind blowing but still good.
The burger needs to be wrapped in a couple of napkins because the bottom bun gets soggy and then it all falls apart but the flavor's there. The fries were well cooked but had that school cantine aftertaste -- not great but not unusual with frozen fries.

The service is pretty non-existent, though, so just brace yourself and know what to expect.
