“Very Comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2010

I'm glad that I did not go on the reviews posted for this hotel. I had a very decent experience there. It is perfectly located in the center of the city of Guanajuato, right on the Jardín Union. My adult son and I were studying Spanish for several weeks in the nearby town of San MIguel de Allende, and took a two night trip to Guanajuato. I wanted a reasonably priced hotel that was centrally located and Posada Santa Fe was perfect. The rooms were not fancy, but clean and comfortable enough. The bathroom was perfectly fine as well, very clean and up-to-date. We found the service to be good and felt extremely safe in this hotel. They have a nice restaurant with seats outside on the jardín side as well as inside. We ate breakfast there and it was good. Guanajuato in general is not noted for its fine restaurants, but it is a spectacular place to visit!

This Hotel has a great location but that is pretty much it. Rooms are depressing. They are filthy, i no AC (room temperature about 85 degrees), no water pressure in shower, fan did not work, no screen in windows, no hair dryer, no iron/board. This hotel is surrounded by at least 3 churches which bells rang all night long and the noise of the street is so loud that you cannot leave the window open to get fresh air. The WC had a water leak, no hot water in shower, no elevators. The rooms have old dirty carpets you do not want to take your shows off. Dirty curtains match very well with the rest of the decor. Please do not stay in that hotel. There are better ones in that beautiful town!

We stayed at this hotel because of the location, but the hotel itself is a bad place to stay., The room was very dark, no air conditioning, and the worse was the bathroom, it had this terrible sewer smell, and the staff is not oriented to deal with turists.

We climbed up to the second floor (the famous room #42) to our room (no elevator) which was 87 degrees according to my Brookstone travel clock, a fan that sounded like a jet engine with no working on off switch, a tiny window, no working TV until we called the desk and they sent up a remote. The TV on/off switch would not work. The beds are covered in plastic so you sweat all night. We left the tiny window open to get some cool air since it was impossible to sleep with the fan on. No one slept most of the night since there was music, screaming, singing, and car honking right outside our window until 5:00 a.m. Miserable hot night with no sleep. Two towels for 3 people, no washcloth. Old beat up furniture. Fix this place up---it has a great location. People working there were very nice.

Hotel is charming..but room smelled of mold. They need to reno rooms, beds and bathroom. We had to be moved from original room. Upgraded to a suite..not much better. Hotel staff needs to be sent to a training class on service. Manager should go with them.

Ok, the location is perfect. We got suite 25 and is perfect because our window was facing the street of the back (not the main plaza). But I promise that was the hardest bed I ever slept before! for the 2nd night we took the stuff from the couch and put it on the floor and slept there, much better. The funky smell coming out from the bathroom!! I think something was wrong with the pipes. They didn't get us a remote control for our TV because the had NO batteries!!!!!
So, if you don't mind to sleep on a stone and have a stinky room (wear flip flops in the bathtub), this place works for you!.

Their webpage says the Jr Suite comes with Jacuzzi and free bottle of wine. The Jacuzzi is your gramma's old chipped steel tub, and forget the bottle of wine, it never came. The staff tells you after you arrive, you can book a common Jacuzzi for the next day. When we went to use the bath tub, we could only get lukewarm water, and the staff tried to convince us that is normal in Mexico. We have stayed in 1 star hotels and still had hot water in Mexico. Finally, we wanted to just leave, frustrated by false advertising and unprofessional managers, and they wanted to fight us about refunding our money because we wasted over 2 hours in the room waiting for them to fix the 'water heater'. Unbelievable! Next time we book a cheap Holiday Inn Express and enjoy the hot shower!
