“Beautiful views”
Reviewed 13 July 2010

This is a very nice home with all the amenities and you can rent a bedroom/bathroom for a very reasonable price. We stayed in the Bufa room which is medium size with a small bathroom and a large private terrace. You have to go up to your room on the top floor via a spiral staircase!

The Embajadoras room is very nice also and we took a peek.

Only guests stay here and you are in a very safe neighborhood where you let yourself in to the home via a number coded locked front door.

Highly recommend staying here. It is above the town by a few blocks, so you will need to walk some steep blocks to get here, but the location is very good and the view is spectacular.

In Guanajuato you see something beautiful on every turn of every street. We were there on the weekend and it was crowded with a lot of daytrippers from nearby towns, but it was all great fun and recommended for a few days.

After reading all the reviews on the Internet about hotels in Guanajuato, this place stood out. We contacted the hotel and within an hour we had a reply and paid for the room via Paypal. We printed out travel reviews from former guests on how to get there, etc., and everything turned out as the other travelers described. The manager was a gracious host and helped us whenever we needed help with making reservations, translating, etc. The staff always smiled and seemed to be very caring.

We felt right at home and stayed even longer than first planned. The location was fantastic, but you have to be willing to climb some stairs. You will not gain weight in this town!

This is a great little hotel with a fantastic location and a great price. Only a few blocks from the jardin Union, it offers a quiet nights rest so close to the bustling city center. At night we sat up on the roof deck and saw the beautiful lights of Guanajuato and in the morning stood on our balcony and watched the young schoolchildren at play in the little plaza. The hotel is convienant to a great bakery, convienence stores, shops and restaurants. Our room was beautifully lit and decorated and they had a nice selection of books to browse while relaxing. I will definately stay there again.

My wife and I drove through Mexico for 2 months this year. We stayed 3 nights at El Zopilote Mojado. The host, Carlos, was exceedingly helpful and efficient. The location was great, near the centre of town. Breakfast was not included but they have a good little restaurant as part of the hotel. All the staff were very friendly although they don't speak English. Carlos speaks perfect English and was able to provide all kinds of helpful advice. This hotel is not fancy but it is very pleasant and clean. They even supplied electric blankets. Views from the upper terrace were great. We would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers.

My wife and I spent three nights here and all of the other reviews are spot on. The one caveat I would mention is that the Embajadoras room is far and away the best value here and probably of our 15 nights in Mexico. We spent two nights there with its huge bathroom and bedroom before moving up to the highest room, the Bufa, which is 1/4 the size with a bathroom that could best be called "tight." Strangely, all of the rooms have the same price. We looked in on the other rooms and the disparity is not quite as severe but it is still significant. If I was Carlos, I would raise the price on the Embajadoras room and/or lower the prices on the other rooms.

Room prices are slightly higher than shown here on TA and do not include breakfast by the way. Breakfast is offered at the main structure back on the plaza (about 200 meters away) and is excellent value and makes a great start to the day. The staff is very friendly and efficient. On my next trip to GTO, I will likely stay here again IF the big room is available, if not, I may look at other options. I will post some photos when I get them processed. The views from the terraces are priceless.

Just up from the Teatro Principal, El Zopilote Mojado is a real treat. Actually two locations, both have no traffic noise, and are situated on a quiet plaza (the only time it gets noisy is when the small elementary school has recess, but it is only the noise of kids having fun). The staff (Claudia and Mariana in the morning, Carlos and Teresa in the afternoons) are great. The main building houses a restaurant, open from breakfast to dinner with great food), and several rooms. We stayed at the other location, across the plaza from the restaurant, in a converted home. We stayed in the largest, the Embajadoras room, with a wall of windows to the central courtyard. Clean and cozy, with a great bed, and electric blanket, (appreciated on a cold night). It opens onto a shared patio with a great view of Guanajuato. It also has a huge bathroom. We peeked into the other rooms, and found them similar, although smaller. One of the rooms has twin beds (with a bath adjoining through a hall door), all of the other appear to have queen beds (with baths en suite). The easiest place to tell a taxi to go is to Teatro Principal and go up the stairs on the right of the Teatro, by the laundromat and on up. Lots of stairs to get to the hotel from Teatro Principal There is a much easier route off of Calle Cantarranas, before Teatro Principal. Have the taxi stop by the statue of Jorge Negrete (the plaza right there is called Plaza El Ropero). Go to the parking lot in beyond the plaza area, and then veer to the left to a callejon on the edge of the parking lot, then take a right onto another callejon. This will take you to Plaza Mexiamora, and El Zopilote Mojado is at the end of the plaza, past the fountain, and on the left. A very nice, clean, friendly place to stay, very centrally located, quiet and with a great view.

Manager Carlos was a gem giving us access to our room accommodations even on the day the cafe was closed & giving us the full treatment showing us all the hotel had to offer. Exquisitely decorated room with a great terrace that had a breathtaking view of the city in the mountains! We ate the portebello mushroom mini pizza style meal several times at the hotel cafe which was absolutely delicious!! Carlos was very helpful & made our stay an enjoyable one!!
