We spent a couple of nights in this hotel and I would recommend it to everyone. Free car park on sitet (very useful if you know Guanajuato), next door to the Alhondiga and a short walk away from the main attractions. The owner is most helpful, she showed us different rooms for us to make a choice. All the rooms are different and have abeen decorated to high standards, keeping with traditional mexican style. We chose a standard room with a balcony overlooking the street. I thought it was going to be noisy, but thanks to the shutters and comfy bed we had a great night sleep. Breakfast was delicious, we went for cooked mexican breakfast with chilaquiles and beans. The restaurant is also beautifully decorated. We were even invited to see the cellar since we were nosing around! Look no more and stay in this wondeful place.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Antiguo Vapor. The hotel is in a great location, close to the city center and with spectacular views from the courtyard. The rooms are huge and the staff was very friendly. The restaurant was very pretty and the free breakfast was okay, but the dishes on the menu were well worth the extra cost. Our only problem was an issue with hot water not being available all the time (possibly a temporary situation). We would return to this hotel.

The most amazing room I have ever stayed in in my life! The view is to die for. Our party of 3 had 2 rooms, Tortolas and Jilgueros. Both had shutter doors that opened onto a small balcony which overlooked this breathtaking hillside town. The rooms are well appointed with beautifully tiled bathrooms and comfortable beds with bottled water provided on bedside table. Staff are extremely helpful and recommended to us, one of the best restaurants you could imagine. The church bells (and there are a lot of them!) in the morning may drive you mad but they add to the vibrancy of this place. Would I stay here again? Would I what !!!!

We just returned from a two night stay. Our room was large and had a high ceiling and a french doors that opened onto the street. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly. The bed was not super comfortable and the room was a little warm without a fan. The owner was very friendly and made a great dinner suggestion (Las Mercedes). Breakfasts at the hotel (ordering from the menu) were among the best meals we had in Guanajuato. It is a short walk from the hotel to the Diego Rivera Museum, the Jardin, the university, the market, many restaurants and bars. It is a good value.

We just returned from a wonderful three night stay at Hotel Antiguo Vapor (Old Fumes?! They told me where the name came from, but still...) Anyway, the owners have done a spectacular job renovating this old property. The rooms are wonderfully furnished with talavera tiles in the bathrooms. The location is great, depending on your room, you can see many beautiful views of Guanajuato and its monuments, like Al Pipila. Everything is an easy walk from the hotel. The main square, Jardin Union is less than 10 minutes away by foot. A real pleasure of our stay was talking with Pilar and her stepson Ricardo. What charming people! Ricardo is a treasure trove of information and recommendations and Pilar is just plain delighful, as are all the employees there.

Now for a few minor things that could stand improvement. The first night, we stayed in the Palomas room. It overlooks the street and faces a bar and all night convenience store. It was far too noisy to sleep. We were moved to the far superior Jilgueros room, about which I have only good things to say. The rooms are furnished with the standard rock hard Mexican mattresses, but I guess that can't be helped. The breakfast "buffet" was so anemic that they really shouldn't bother with it, though the breakfast you can order was delicious. Finally, how about a pot of coffee in the lobby for us early rising Gringos?

Guanajuato is a wonderful and unique destination. Hotel Antiguo Vapor is a great place to stay while you visit. We'll be back!

Hotel Antiguo Vapor is truly a special hotel. Family run, staffed by animated, curious and always helpful university students, its central location, charm, and hospitality are second to none. We felt totally taken care of from beginning to end. Breakfast (included in the price of your room) was simple but adequate. Perhaps some of the wonderful breads one finds in the local panaderías could be included in the breakfast. You will feel as if you have become part of the family from the moment you arrive and for a few days, you are. Guanajuato is charming and so rich in culture... we could not have been happier with the choice to stay at the Antiguo Vapor. Five Stars for sure!

My husband and I were absolutely delighted with Hotel Antiguo Vapor. The location, in the center of town, was perfect for walking to almost everyplace you would want to go. Our room was charming, spotless and comfortable. It is relatively new, so everything is in wonderful condition. Pilar, the owner, and her family couldn't have been kinder and more thoughtful - we visited with one of them every day - they really value personal service. Our continental breakfasts were fine, but meals ordered off the menu, while an added cost, were definitely worth it. They were traditional and delicious. We stayed five nights and thoroughly enjoyed Guanajuato and Hotel Antiguo Vapor!
