“Second time and STILL lucky”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2014

I stayed at Casa de Dante for the second time in February 2014 (both time with a friend) and did not regret re-booking. As soon as you arrive, you feel like you are being welcomed into a family home. Rogelio the son was manning the check-in desk and his mum gave us a friendly 'buenas noches' as she passed through into the kitchen. Everything was just like last time (when I visited in 2010), though Rogelio is slightly taller this time. The views over Guanajuato from the roof terrace are stunning, and the owners have no problem if you drink a couple of cervecitas up there (I recommend Victoria as a good brew). And then there are the breakfasts ... better than any hotel in my opinion! We were treated to an Australian-themed breakfast, with a koala-shaped fruit arrangement and some Wolfmother on the boombox. To get into the centre of Guanajuato is a short walk from the hostel, and a taxi fare to and from the bus station is only about 40 pesos. All in all, a perfect stay!

Room Tip: The private double is good value and very comfortable!

ok for starters i didn't totally read the hostel's description, meaning that i didn't pay attention to the fact it was roughly 165 step to the hostel, whew!but when it got there it was totally worth it.the roof top terrace was just one of this places redeeming qualities.such a panoramic view.then there was the staff.always attentive to make your stay memorable.and finally the breakfast's dante's mom was the chief chef.and no day was there the same breakfast and the fruit plat was always hand crafted and the presentation was as unbelievable as the meal itself.i found the steps didn't seem to make that much difference when compared to the overall package.

Room Tip: if you don't mind going out of your way some this is one of the finest hostels i have stayed at...

This is a great choice for a hostel in Guanajuato: an elegant, kind family, with wonderful breakfasts who will keep you fascinated with discussion about Mexican life and politics. The building in a well maintained, with a great view over the city. It's a steep walk down into town, and about 15 minutes by foot to the centre. My only big quibble is that it's so cold in winter. I know it is the norm in Mexico not to have much in the way of heating in winter, esp. in a hostel. And they provided extra blanket. It was colder because there was not much warm water (it was lukewarm one day and completely cold the next--perhaps I woke up too late). So I was very cold, and would happily stay here again, but not in January.

La Casa de Dante is an excellent and economical place to stay. At every turn there is beautiful Mexican Folk Art. And the place is very clean from top to bottom. This guesthouse is a family run place and warm and inviting! The daily breakfast is more than a breakfast but more of a gourmet meal! The cooking is done by Dante’s wonderful mother Irene and by Diana.

I spent two nights in la Casa de Dante, and I had a very good experience. It is a quiet, friendly and clean hostel. The breakfast is AWESOME. La Senora Irene and Diana are experts of Mexican food, and you will eat a different sophisticated dish almost everyday. No limits of repetitions, you will be surprises by their friendly spirit.

Every now and then you stay at a hostel that just feels so welcoming, this is one of them!

The property is actually well located (it's really only a 10-15 pleasant walk into central town) and the area is completely safe so that walking home late at night isn't an issue.

The free breakfast is great and freshly cooked with homemade love while the communal areas such as the roof/balcony provide a great place to chill out if you want to stay still.

One very good English speaker works here if you Spanish is not so good!

Had a lovely time staying in a private room in this hostel, mainly because the owners were so friendly and welcoming. (E.g. When I arrived Dante started out by offering me fruit and a cold drink before I even paid for my room) Breakfast each morning was something tasty and nutritious served in a really friendly, cheerful atmosphere. The building itself had great views and several different areas for hanging out and socialising, and it was cheerfully decorated, including with new poinsettias for Christmas time and a huge bunch of beautiful, fragrant lillies in my room - things like that are really more than what a budget hostel needs to do, which made me think that the owners just actually care about running a really good hostel. Overall - excellent value and highly recommended!
