“Very Disappointed”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

Arrived for three nights at what we thought was to be a lovely Relais Chateau Hotel only to find it was under massive construction. The hotel should be closed until it has finished with their expansion. The workmen start at 7am-6pm and they are banging and plaster dust is everywhere. The facility is very nice but it is completely compromised by the construction. So, make sure that this construction is finished before booking. It will be nice but for now, stay away.

Room Tip: Make sure you are not near the kitchen.

A fancy pretentious place with dark rooms, creeky floors, wi-fi that only worked sporadically and shocking, shocking service.
Very far from the large, interesting historic parts of Guanajuto (the hotel & its location spoilt the experience of a wonderful city).
To cap it all we were, on holiday, woken before 7am by continuous renovation banging on our room's walls that would have woken the dead & accompanied by rowdy builders music; the hotel not even having the grace to apologise.
All at exhorbitant prices.
No question there are much nicer hotels closer to the centre.

Room Tip: Avoid any rooms especially while they are building

If ever you visit Guanajuato, it's worth staying there. Nice location, very nice rooms, terrific service, very good food!
Accomodations are modern and with deluxe finishes. Service is AAA.
Food can be tailored to your needs. Very creative chef.

We stayed only one night from Saturday to Sunday. Although we went to visit Guanajuato for the first time we wanted to stay inside the hotel. Don't forget your swimsuit so you can use the relaxing pool and enjoy the spa. Service was the best I have received in a long time, details everywhere. Fresh fruit in the room, valet service, that leave you bottles of water inside the car each time they deliver it. The reservation process can improve as we got different room fees by phone than the one over the Internet or booking.com but everything else was perfect.

Excellent hotel with very comfortable rooms. The rooms are large with plenty of space to work. The internet access worked well. Plenty of power outlets. Bathroom was excellent with steam shower.
The food was excellent although the service a little slow at breakfast. This is not the typical business hotel so that is to be expected.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent.

Oddly enough, Villa Maria Cristina reminded me of the floating palaces of Udaipur, India, for it's gorgeous pink tile work, dark teak wood furnishings, and open air palatial feel. Our room was small, but cozy, dark and luxurious, quiet. Best sleep ever. Breakfast was formal and full service. Lovely.
Someone mentioned that VMC is not central, but in fact, it is a short and lovely stroll to the central city, all the museums (Don Quixote) and monuments, and cute cafes and restaurants. I liked being up a quiet street. Further up the street is, if I recall the name correctly, Mexico Lindo, where you can get the local specialty of peppers stuffed with beef and dried fruits, smothered in a cream sauce. The best meal ever.
We stayed only one night, but it was an excellent welcome to Guanajuato en route to San Miguel de Allende.

First, for those going to Guanajuato, this hotel is a 5-7 minute ($5 to $7) cab ride or solid 25 minute walk to/from the centro. It's located in the cleaner, nicer La Presa neighborhood. But, that's all ok and actually a plus. Guanajuato is magical city but it can crowded, congested and dirty in parts. This classic luxury hotel is well worth it and mainly because the hotels in the center of Guanajuato are terrible, regardless of the reviews (many of which are suspicious). In any event, we stayed here for two nights in a suite around the courtyard. The suite was beautifully appointed, immaculate and more than comfortable. The bathroom was gorgeous and the amazing cistern like pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna are all part of atmosphere. The surrounding area is simply beautiful with a spectacular view of the mountains. This was our second time to Guanajuato and if we ever go back, this hotel would be the only choice.

Room Tip: Spring for the larger suites around the courtyard.
