I'm pretty sure you could do better than to stay here. It is well located, close to everything, but the whole place seems like it was pieced together as an afterthought.
If you're in one of the private rooms, you can hear the TV blaring from the restaurant kitchen. The shared bath from one of the private rooms require that you walk through the restaurant to get to it. It is also the restroom for the restaurant! I actually thought it was a funny experience, but if you like your comforts, beware.
The upstairs dorms are a mess of beds shoved anywhere they could find space. The kitchen had no silverware, a tiny fridge, no microwave, no dishsoap. In summary, I don-t think it's intended to be used.
Really, the only redeeming feature of this place is its beautiful rooftop terrace. Have a glass of wine up there and laugh about your choice of hostels.
Oh, and if it matters, the staff does not speak English.

Room Tip: If you choose a private room, get the one with the bathroom in it. And beware of the one dorm room that actually opens onto the staircase.

I traveled to Guanajuato in a group of 10 students and enjoyed just about everything about the Casa del Tio. The rooms were well kept, the bathrooms were clean, the wifi connection was good, and the showers generally had warm -- but not quite hot -- water. The hostel has an extremely friendly staff and a beautiful rooftop terrace. Breakfasts were somewhat small but certainly nothing to complain about given the incredible price of the hostel. The location is perfect for the beautiful small town of Guanajuato. I recommend it!

The hostel is quiet, cozy and comfortable, just as any hostel should be! I heard Guanajuato was an outstanding town, and I'm glad I picked it as a stop on my journey. In the hostel you have a wide choice of rooms, from cheap privates (180 to 200 pesos for a double in low season) to even cheaper dorms. Beds are comfortable and clean; in the men bathroom
you have 3 showers and 2 toilets (pretty small, but they're alright) and it's always clean. The kitchen is not very big, but it has everything you need (even the fridge, you only have to ask for it as it's not located on the 2nd floor).
I enjoyed the company of the staff and of the people I met there, and it's really in the heart of town, you can reach any place in only a few minutes of walking.
If you are visiting Guanajuato, don't miss it, it'd be a shame ;)
