This review is long overdue. My husband and I went to La Casa De Pita during the Cervantino Festival and Day of the Dead in October/November. The room we stayed in when we first got there was the first room to the right upon entering the house/buidling and it had a kitchen, a bathroom (the vanity and sink was separate and I consider that convenient), a living room area that included a sofa and a table, and a stairs to the second level which is where the bedroom was and that room overlooked the first level (bedroom had a tv w/cable). We stayed here a couple nights and then moved to another room which was bigger (and we paid a little more for it) and had the same ammenities. Both rooms were very clean, orderly and had cute Mexican decor. I don't consider it a fancy place so if you're looking for that--continue on. I don't think the spiral metal staircase and the second level bedroom may not be suitable for young kids, elderly or those with disabilities but for us, that wasn't an issue.

We loved that it is centrally located we were able to walk everywhere w/out the need for any taxis. The breakfast was timely, abudant and delicious. Pita (the owner) is a great host--she is friendly and very knowlegeable of the area. Our favorite breakfast item was the celery juice and before leaving, Pita was nice enough to give us a parting gift---her celery juice recipe!! We still make her celery juice and every time we drink it, it still takes us back our adventure in Guanajuato.

Pita welcomes you into her home. Her castle, I mean casa, consists of rooms in a multi-level home that take you up to the sky level, with a memorable view of Guanajuato. Each room is decorated differently and with care, all lovely and individual. The kitchen and dining room at the main level are full of "objets d'arts" that Pita and her family have collected from all over Mexico. This little place is an oasis in the heart of one of the most beautiful little cities in the world. A copious amount of delicious homemade food is served every morning by a wonderful staff. Pita is helpful and charming and makes you feel welcome in her home.

We stayed at Casa de Pita for 10 days and had a wonderful time. We stayed here last year as well for 2 weeks. Pita is a very good hostess and she is very good at helping us with our Spanish. This year we got to meet her granddaughters who are just as wonderful as her. The breakfasts are traditional Mexican and unlike any you could get in a restaurant. The rooms are clean some have kitchens and they all have bathrooms which seem to have every tile made in Mexico on the walls. There is a wonderful terrace on the roof which gets better and bigger every year. She always has interesting guests and breakfast conversation is always lively. I would recommend Casa de Pita to anyone who wants to experience what it's like to live in a Mexican family because that's how you will feel here.

Casa de Pita is like a mini version of Guanajuato itself - vibrant and colorful, friendly, full of interesting things and people. It is one of my favorite places to stay in the entire world, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Guanajuato.

The guest house itself is beautiful, great care has been put into creating unique rooms. There is also a terrace atop the third floor that has great views of the city. The location is perfect for exploring the city. You are just a minute or so walking from the jardin, and since it is located right behind a landmark (Teatro Principal) you can always find your way back.

More importantly, Pita is a wonderful person who cares a lot about her guests, and quickly makes them feel like family. She serves a mean breakfast - coffee, juice, fruit with yogurt and granola, and just when you start to get full she brings out the day's dish. If you are looking to practice your Spanish, Pita is a great person to share stories with, and there is usually good conversation over breakfast with her and the other guests.

I have to share a quick story to show the lengths Pita will go to for her guests. I recently decided to propose to my girlfriend in Guanajuato, and wanted to have a mariachi band serenade her. At the last minute, I called Pita to help me plan something. She arranged for us to have a drink on the roof terrace during sunset, and sure enough, at the agreed time a 10-piece mariachi band filed up the stairs and played a private concert for us. It was perfect.

It's an authentic colonial house. I had my own apartment with kitchen and separate entrance. A cozy place full of antiques and lovely decorations. Breakfast is freshly prepared by the great cook and enjoyed with the owner who is a very lively and charming lady. Great way to start off the day.

Few weeks ago, a friend from Taiwan decided to visit me in Guadalajara. Because he was here for several weeks, I recommend him to visit Guanajuato, and of course, to be hosted at Casa de Pita. I was there 2 years ago, and I loved it. Also, I thought that it was pretty convinient because he would travel alone and Ms Pita, the owner of the hotel, is such an adorable lady, so, it won't be difficult for him. My thoughts were totaly true. Ms Pita was amazing!!!! She helped him to create the walking tour around Guanajuato, she told him wonderful stories about the city and she even called a taxi driver of her trust in order to deal with the next step of his trip. The nicest thing was that she send me an email asking me if my friend arrived safe. So, it is the only place that the service does not end when you leave the place. I am sure that if you stay at Casa de Pita, you wont only have a nice place to sleep and a wonderful included breakfast, you also will have a new friend in Guanajuato, the wonderful Ms Pita.

My mom and I stayed here for one night in late December. I wish we had had room in our itinerary to spend another night. I booked our room very last minute through email with Pita. She was very quick in responding and offered us the Mexiamora bedroom for 450 pesos (less than $40). It was a very cosy and darling room with a bunk bed. The lower bunk was actually a full size. The room was on the small side, but it had it's own sink and some dishes. The bathroom was also in the room, but up some small stairs. We were not in the main house, but instead were in our own space on a side street just steps from the main house. In the morning we were treated to a complimentary breakfast that included coffee or tea, fruit with granola and yogurt and two little breakfast burritos. A very good deal for the money. And a great location to all of the major sites. I would definitely stay here again.
