A modern conversion of a traditional building, very close to the centre. There is a very attractive central staircase leading to the rooms, some of which are internal. The rooms have immaculate tiled floors and are well fitted out with comfortable bed, TV, fridge and room safe. The bathroom was large and very modern with both a bath and shower.
Breakfast in the ground floor restaurant was included.
The staff were friendly and very helpful.
The only drawback was the traffic noise from the adjacent road early in the morning, but this was not a problem in the internal rooms.

My wife and stayed three nights - Hotel Manager Salvador and his staff were always very helpful and went the extra step (ie reserving a parking spot for us right in front of the hotel in a 1 hour spot where they parked us for 2 days) - great central location (but some rooms with balconies face the one lane street) as one can walk everywhere - the rooms were spotless, large and in excellent condition (but no elevator if you need one). We slept well in a back room although the bed was hard (as is common in many similiar hotels). The value for money is there. All in all we would return and recommend this hotel to anyone. This was the 2nd time we stayed at this hotel, in general a good experience and we would go back again. ROOMS: very clean, average size, nice furniture, comfortable bed. We stayed at the "Amapola" room, it has a balcony @ 3rd floor. BATHROOM: great size, furniture, shower and bath, just a few problems with hot water first night. LOCATION: 1 block from the main street, very easy to move all around downtown from there... however there are 2 churches next to the hotel so if you are not a morning person you wont like bells at 7 am...they're loud!! PARKING: when making your reservation ask for parking space, it is like 5 min. walking, they'll drive you there (safe parking lot) STAFF: Kind/average GUESTS: mostly +35. PRICE: same as other similar hotels in the area, something cheaper would not be that nice.

On the plus side, the hotel is superbly located in the center of town, just a block or two from the main square. It also has in its favor a lovely old building. The hot water was ample and highly pressurized (I read an earlier review where this was not the case).

On the downside, we had an exterior room, the harmonics of which amplified the street noise below. Either because this is a college town or because of the Cervantino festival, bands of revelers shouted randomly through the night until about 4 am. Thereafter, the old diesel buses trundled up the cobble (imagine a truck shifting through low gears right outside your window)--it seems that the hotel is on the bus route. I am used to the ambient New York street noise but this was akin to a garbage truck circling your block. To boot, and this is obviously snobbish, the church bell across the street is possibly the worst sounding in the world--At 5 IAM I heard a horrible clanging that I assumed was the hot water coursing through the hotel pipes, but after the sequence repeated on the half hour, I realized this was an ecclesiastical tintinnabulation. It occured to us that an interior room would have been quieter. So here comes the service end of it:

The manager said that we should have asked for an interior room if we were sensitive to noise, and of course it was noisy during the Cervantino, but that that some people like the balcony (It was, if anything an 18" bumpout from the window). The hotel was not full, the interior room would have been not only preferable, but the only way to make it through the night, but no one thought to offer it. The manager said we should have asked for an interior room if we wanted quiet. Likewise the front desk clerk seemed equally bemused when we checked in, like we we had come to the wrong place. It was as if the local grocer had suffered a concussion and stumbled onto the front desk--"My head hurts and why are you asking me to sleep in my house? Limes are 5 pesos a kilo." It was a bizarre experience that you might laugh off in a cut rate hostel, but feel utterly cheated by in a pricey hotel.

I stayed two nights with my girlfriend and had a great experience. We went for the Festival Internacional Cervantino so we didn't spend much time at the hotel. The rooms were clean, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very spacious with a jacuzzi tub and shower. The staff was very helpful as well. It is a walking city so parking our car was necessary. A gentleman on the staff accompanied us to find the parking stucture and we were able to keep the car parked over the weekend for free. It's a great place to stay for a weekend getaway.

the old town in guanajuato is reached via a tunnel with a series of exits into the town........quite confusing but there was some 'tourist guides' on hand who showed us the way to the hotel for a small remuneration......as the review says it was raining slightly when we arrived but we had a warm welcome at the hotel, our bags were taken from the car and it was parked for us.

The hotel is well looked after and is ideally situated to walk throughout the old town and there are some lovely restaurants close by.....complete with Mariachi bands. (100 peso's for a 7 piece band to play a tune at your table ....we had one fab band and one that had some tuning problems)

Our room was largish with a tall celiing and nice bathroom facing the front of the hotel overlooking a church that is being renovated. It was slightly noisy at night and the bells do chime on the hour Inot at night) although quite how many times is a bit of a mistery. We had a lovely bathroom with a good shower and bath.

Breakfast was included and apart from the tea (which is not great throughout Mexico) was excellent....... and free internet which was a bonus. The staff were curtious and helpful and I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, although if you are worried by noise ask for a back facing room.

Our experience was very good. Rooms are good size, very clean, offer good linen quality & comfortable beds. The front rooms face the street; we asked for a room that did not face the road to avoid the nighlife noise. The room was delightful, silent, offered a window to the inside patio of the beautiful old colonial building. Rooms have security box, jacuzzi bathtub (great after a long day walk) and a shower. Service was very good and friendly, a generous la carte breakfast is included (great chilaquiles !!!).
Location is also very good, walking distance to almost every sight.
Dont expect an elevator-- the hotel has 4 floors--with that in mind arrange your reservation. No AC. Free wireless internet access at the lobby.
