“Retreat above the city”
Reviewed 7 February 2012

The location of this lovely B&B can't be faulted. Situated by the Pipila monument, above the city, you have simply gorgeous views over the pretty town. There is a funicular which gets you into town within minutes if you can't face the walk down the callejon....although more likely it's back up the hill when you'll take advantage! The breakfasts are spectacular as well! Rick is super friendly and is a wealth of knowledge about the area and the history. The only slight niggle is that not all the rooms get wifi, so you need to wander down to the lounge to get internet. Not a major really.

Room Tip: I travelled with a friend, and they offer a room with two separate sleeping areas, which was a treat...

Casa Zuniga overlooks the historic city of Guanajuato, Mexico. At night from the terrace the old part of the city looks like a wonderland below. The hotel is at the top of a funicular railway railway which allows easy access to the old town, as opposed to hundreds of stairs. The rooms were large, clean, and nicely furnished. The morning breakfast was large and tasty. Rick Zuniga goes all out to share his passion for local history, shopping, cuisine, and respect for the culture. No qualms about returning. Strong recommendation if you're going there.

Room Tip: didn't view other rooms.

We had a great stay at Casa Zuniga. It is located near the top of the funicular, so you have a fantastic view of the valley below, and can appreciate some quiet at the end of a busy day of trecking around Guanajuato. Rick and Carmen are excellent hosts. Rick shared all his knowledge and passion for the local area and gave us a tour of places we never could have found in any guide book. The breakfasts were perfect. We had the best chili rellenos that we have ever had. The B&B is very clean, with well furnished rooms. The place is newly built so the rooms are larger and showers work better than some of those older B&Bs. TV is available in the lounge, where you are welcome to sit, per Rick , though we never ended up using it, since we were so exhausted at the end of each day. The city is just beautiful. Don´t miss it, and do stay here. This guest house may not be suitable for small children as there are alot of open roof spaces and stairs.

Room Tip: We liked the Morgan room, which has a king bed, and a balcony overlooking the valley, and a nice lou...

My wife and I and a friend stayed at Casa Zuniga over the Thanksgiving weekend and I wish we could have stayed forever! Rick and Carmen are absolutely fantastic hosts and the Casa is beautiful, in a beautiful setting. Rick's passion about Guanajuato history is infectious and I would have missed an awful lot about the town without Rick's entertaining, animated stories. These are all aided by terrific murals in the Casa, depicting key events in Guanajuato history. Add to all of that, the delicious breakfasts! Rick and Carmen kept us very well-fueled for our walks through town. Be sure to tell your cab driver to take you to the Pipila monument to get to Casa Zuniga, otherwise you'll be climbing an impressive cliff with your bags! We loved bringing our healthy gringo organs to Mexico and never feeling like anyone was going to take them!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are great!

My wife and I stayed 3 nights at Rick and Carmen's "home-away-from-home" feeling B & B. The highlights included the morning views from our balcony overlooking from the valley below where the heart of the town lay, with the sounds of this wonderful colonial town waking up as the sun rose...roosters crowing, dogs barking, cathedral bells ringing. All of this followed by the most sumptuous B & B breakfasts we have ever encountered in all our travels.

Rick's hosting included being the local historian of this history-rich town, leading us on tours to the mines and various town squares. We have never had such service or been around someone who avidly shares the wealth of information about the love they have for where they live.

It's a rare site to see a place on trip advisor with such good ratings - this place definately is worthy of excellent ratings. Rick has made the place into a really welcoming and comfortable guest house. The views over the town are to die for and (with the free tickets Rock gave us) using the funicular to get into town was very easy. The rooms are huge and immaculately clean. Breakfast is to die for - even my wife who is vegetarian had plenty to choose from. Free wi-fi is always helpful.

It's a shame we could only stay one night but if I ever return to Guanajuato this is the one place I'd stay.
