“Perfect B&B in fantastic Condesa”
Reviewed 18 January 2009

We stayed here on the last leg of our honeymoon and it was a great way to finish. Rocio made us feel very welcome from the beginning and is such an asset to this place.

Condesa Haus is perfectly located in a lovely part of Mexico City. The area is a joy to walk around - day or night - sampling the various cafes and bars.

The B&B has a homely feel and is discrete and quiet. It seems like such a better option than all of the faceless chain hotels that proliferate the city. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. We WILL be back though and I hope that Rocio is there to greet us again.

This was our first trip to Mexico, having been recommended to us by some close friends, and we decided to start our adventure in Mexico City. We were a little apprehensive about the city's reputation for being unsafe for visitors but during our stay at Condesa Haus we came to love both the city and our choice of accommodation.

The area around Condesa Haus felt very safe at all times and the house itself was quite unassuming when viewed from the street. Stepping through the door revealed a carefully and tastefully restored, oasis of calm. We stayed in the charming Playa Del Carmen room, which had a small balconette into the interior atrium on one side and a balcony to the street on the other. All the facilities in the room were carefully chosen and functioned well during our stay.

Breakfast each day was served at a dining table just off the central atrium and offered a chance to enjoy fabulous home cooked specialities (Huevos Rancheros & a la Mexicana, yum!) and catch up with the other guests. Every meal we had was delicious and provided us with the perfect start to our day for exploring the city.

However good all these practicalities were, the best two things about Condesa Haus were our hosts: Rocio & Fernando. They were perfect all throughout our stay, going way beyond the call of duty to ensure that we enjoyed our time in Mexico City. They made us feel as if nothing was too much trouble and without their help and advice I think our stay wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun. Rocio was always on hand as our personal travel agent and city guide (bursting with ideas and information, her enthusiasm was tremendous, thank you so much Rocio!) and our drinking buddy Fernando (quite the party animal) even went as far as to arrange a visit to his dentist for me when a filling started to play up! Thanks guys, it was great to spend time with you!

One other member of the wider Condesa Haus team also deserves a mention: Alfonso. We wanted to spend a day touring some of the sights a little further afield (Plaza de la Tres Culturas, Basilica de Guadalupe & Teotihuacan) and asked Rocio if she could arrange this for us. She recommended Alfonso and he proved to be a terrific guide: friendly, very knowledgeable, patient and flexible. Thank you for a great day Alfonso!

We left Condesa Haus and Mexico City bound for Oaxaca with heavy hearts, which was surprising given our trepidation prior to arrival and the fact that we had only spent 5 days there but ultimately testament to our vastly exceeded expectations.

Muy gracias, one and all!

How could you “rate” your own home?
That’s how we felt at Condesa Haus, at home. This beautiful old house, delightfully decorated, comfortable, flawless, great bed, wonderful tub. Ad an amazing neighborhood, subway station just a few steps away, fabulous restaurants around the corner, but specially Rocio and Fernando’s hospitality and you will have an idea of what Condesa Haus is.
Their warmness, incredible and wise advice, and the smiles that never left their faces made our stay an unforgettable experience.
Every morning Rocio and Mari, their maid, tried and accomplished their best to make the breakfast time a delicious moment, plates full of fresh fruit, meat and cheese tray, juice, fresh made coffee, toast, and those Huevos a la mexicana!!
Rocio was always ready to help us, from printing our boarding passes to sitting with us every morning to elaborated our daily plan, where to go, how to get there, where to eat, the best places to buy handcrafts, and she was always right! the best tips for party time, however came from Fernando!!
Without a doubt, if you are planning to visit Mexico City, and want to feel safe, welcomed, then you should stay at Condesa Haus!

Are all Mexicans this friendly?
Rocio and Fernado felt like old friends by the time we left after our five days in Mexco city.
We loved staying in Condesa- leafy and quiet with great restaurants and bars, all walking distance. Condesa Haus (as is a lot of the neighbourhood) is Spanish Art Deco that has undergone a stylish makeover yet retains the essence of its Art Deco roots.
Rocio makes a great Huevos Rancheros for breakfast!
Thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the other guests at the hotel, although they did tempt me to drink one too many Tequilas at a local hotel one night!
We travelled everywhere from here via the subway which was close by and unbelievably cheap. Rocio and Fernado gave us great advice on where to go and what to see (not to mention how to get there)and we felt we did a lot more than just doing what the guide book says to do!
As mad foodies - Fernado told us about THE places to eat in Mexico City.
Would go back to Condesa Haus any day and recommend it to everyone

I stayed at Condesa Haus for two months while I was working in Mexico City. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling for business or pleasure. It is located in a recently renovated mansion and is very clean with a great breakfast. Also in a safe location in a fantastic neighborhood close to all of the best restaurants and bars. The staff is incredibly helpful and will truly make everything about your stay in Mexico as easy as possible - from calling you taxis to giving you tips on the best museums and restaurants.

Condesa Haus is an excellent place to stay if you are looking for some peace and quiet in Mexico City. It is located in the new trendy district of Condesa, with lots of lovely restaurants and eating places nearby. The residence itself is extremely cozy and Rocio, the manager, is an excellent host! we felt very welcome and well taken care of the entire time we were there. Rocio makes a very delicious egg breakfast and was very helpful with directions and taking care of all our needs. She even arranged for a car and driver (at the last minute!) to take us to Teotihuacan and, although it is a little pricier than some of the tours available online, it is a lot safer and Alfonso (the driver) was an excellent and friendly guide. The rooms are beautifully appointed. We stayed in the cosy Monterrey room for our first night there before moving into the Porfirio room for the rest of our stay. The Porfirio is definitely the star of the establishment. It is a beautiful room that makes you feel pampered just by staying in it! It's certainly a must for those thinking of staying at Condesa Haus. Overall, I would highly recommend Condesa Haus for anyone visiting Mexico City. It is a little piece of home amidst the hustle and bustle of a crowded city like Mexico.
