“No sleep available here.”
Reviewed 16 June 2012

We booked here for our last night in Mexico, hoping to get a good night's sleep before travelling home. Big mistake. Huge festival going on in the street out front. We asked if it was going to be loud, and were told, maybe a little, maybe until 9 pm. We asked for a quieter room they moved us 4 doors down and came back at 9 pm to go to bed. Well, at 9 pm you couldn't even hear yourself in the lobby and our room was throbbing. We asked for a quieter room (they said they didn't expect this much noise). Our third room was quieter, but impossible to sleep with the deep base thump through the windows. This continued until 1:30 am. At one point we asked if we could move to another Marriott. No go. No effort to compensate us for our terrible night. Also felt really ripped off by internet charges (we didn't connect at the outrageous price) and hotel taxi fees. The bed would have been comfortable if it had been quiet.

Room Tip: Back side is quieter.

Overall the hotel is perfectly fine and I would stay again if the price is good.

Location: The hotel is smack in Zona Rosa, right on Paseo de la Reforma. It's about a 10 minutes walk from the closest metro station (Insurgentes), and you can walk to the Polenco area for nicer restaurants, but it's around a 50-60 minutes walk. There was an international fair along Paseo d.l. Reforma so it was an nice walk. The Zona Rosa bars are all walking distance from the hotel. To the old town or Zocalo area it's best to take taxi or the metro. Metro is amazingly cheap - 4 peso per ride to any station - amazing!!! Taxi from airport is around $14US (priced by zones so no worries about being overcharged).

Service: The services were professional and you will not have a problem with communicating in English. Nothing stands out good or bad. It would be more or less what you expect from an international hotel chain.

Food: The breakfast buffet in the club lounge is ok. The lounge itself is a very nice space, overlooking the city.

Gym/Pool: The gym was good, with a lot of treadmills and adequate amount for weights. The equipment were clean and well maintained. The pool is smaller, but not bad. I believe it's indoor but with a skyroof that they covered. There were small sauna and steam room in the locker rooms that no one seemed to use. The spa area looks nice but we didn't use.

Room: The room was was fine. It is an older hotel and the room, although clean, was dated. Overall a fine room with no major complaints.

I spend about 150 nights a year in marriotts and I have to say this was by far the worst Marriott in the world when it comes to taking care of elite members. They will nickle and dim you for everything. Have a extra guest for a quick discussion in the lounge? $35 charge + tax to your room w/o even telling you. Have second room for your family? good luck getting a free internet connection for the second room. Try to ask the front desk to look up a room number and ring up a co-worker? sorry that's not the front desk's job so DIY. Ask the bellmen to get you a cab from the street? sorry go get it your self, we only provide our own car service. If you have a choice, stay at the other two JW properties. It might be a extra $30 - 40 USD depending on your corp rate, it is worth every pennie.

Good location for a business trip - good service, safe and clean. The only downsides are that they charge for wifi, and the music in the bar is too loud to enjoy. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars within walking distance of the hotel in the Zona Rosa, however.

A typical upper-end CBD hotel so similar to what one would find in most major cities around the world. Centrally located, upmarket, safe, blah blah. Nothing sensational but at least you know what you are getting and it is reliable. Friendly and efficient staff, clean rooms, good fitness centre and decent breakfasts. Pay through your teeth for Wifi but that seems a bit of a norm in so many of these big hotel groups - there is a Starbucks right next door and for the price of a capuccino one can get wifi from them instead. Would I stay there again...probably.

When I arrived I had some problems with check-in, so I had to wait for the person who made the reservation, to come and fix it. That made me angry, for that reason, I put a stick higher to qualify. However, it is a hotel of high quality. Great room, clean, comfortable, spacious ... High cost of internet access, but high bandwidth. Very high quality and varied breakfast. Expensive but recommended.

Staff and management is generous, friendly, well trained, good with instructions and overall business practices. The hotel is clean, the building and décor modern with an excellent lunch buffet. The staff and management were always pro active and ready to help. I previously used another hotel for business due to its location around the area but I’m definitely switching to Marriott Reforma for the hotel’s young, dynamic ‘yes can do culture’ as well as the quality of their services and attention to detail. Very well suited for demanding, high level business events.
