“Great hotel close to the zocalo”
Reviewed 17 September 2011

This hotel has been one of our favorites for the last few years. We usually travel to the city once or twice a year for a few days and almost always stay here, since we first discovered it. It is a relatively new hotel in one of the very old building in the Centro Historico. A very moderate price for a very nice hotel.

Check-in is always a breeze; we have never encountered a delay. The staff throughout the entire hotel are extremely helpful and courteous and will go out of their way to do anything that they can for you.

Rooms are pleasant, spotlessly clean an airy. There are two restaurants on site---one a coffee shop the other, Fishers is a seafood restaurant. Food is average in both. However, the coffee shop houses Garabatos, a bakery extraordinaire. The pastries at this bakery are to die for and you can eat them in the restaurant or take them to your room for a wonderful evening treat. The bakery is a 5-star experience.

The hotel is just a few blocks from the zocalo, which is a must-see on any trip to the city.

I stayed here over a long weekend holiday in Mexico City. The obvious selling point of this hotel is the location; it's perfectly situated in the old historic district. You can easily walk to the major sights/museums; the hotel is a 5 minute walk to the Zocalo. The hotel itself is clean and efficient, and the employees are friendly. The rooms are a little on the small side, but include all the amenities you'd expect. The bed was comfortable. There was a small bathroom with a walk-in shower that had plenty of hot water. There is a small exercise room (just a couple of machines), but the equipment was fairly new and well maintained. Even tough the hotel is in a "historic" building, the hotel itself doesn't have a ton of character (despite the stained glass atrium. If you are looking for a great location at an affordable price, you'll be hard pressed to do better.

My wife and I visited Mexico City and wanted to stay in the historic district. This is the perfect hotel. It is 2 blocks from the Zocalo and the historic buildings and churches in the area. It is in an old building that has been restored completely. Rooms are clean as can be and very quiet. The breakfast buffet is complete with eggs, bacon, cereal, yogurt, waffles, fruit etc. It took about 35 minutes by cab from the airport in heavy traffic, 20 minutes going back with regular traffic. The area around the hotel was safe and filled with street vendors and performers. When we set the dates to go, we did not know that Sept. 16 is Mexican Independence Day, which draws huge crowds to the Zocalo, along with the closing of streets in the historic district. The hotel fairly priced. We had a small suite with fridge and microwave with 2 queen beds (our grown son met us there) for about $120 per nite. No pool or spa, but did have a small exercise room with eliptical, tread mill and bike.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the busy street and it was still quiet.

I always stay here during my time in Mexico City. I am a young female professional and safety is of the utmost importance to me. The receptionist arranges everything for me, from car service (that accept credit cards, a hard find) and local restaurants. During the day, i feel comfortable to walk around alone. At night, however, I would be a bit weary.

The rooms are nice and quiet, which is a necessity for me and hard to come by in the bustling streets of the DF.

All in all this hotel is well worth the price.

We stayed for 1 nigth at the end of August, 2011. When we got to the reception noone welcomed us however a lady and a gentlemen was working. The lady was checking something in her computer, the gent (Alejandro) was staring a cuple who had just arrived with a quite rude grimace on his face (like "who are they that they are arriving and just sitting down in the lobby instead of check in first...")
When we said hello they replied, but did not even looked at us.
When we said we would like to book in as we have a reservation Alejandro asked for our passports. We said we've been here before so we were not sure if they need again our documents. He did not say anything just disappeared and never come back... Than we asked the lady to help us. Finaly she looked at us and give us the swipe cards. She also offered us a wakeup call and transfer to the airport and we were happy with it.

Next day we cancelled the wakeup call as we've been up already and went to the reception to confirm the taxi arriving at 6am. The night receptionist said that the taxi was already there. (5.30am) So we run upstairs to pick up our lagguages and quickly went back. The receptionist said that the taxi driver went to the bathroom, he will be back soon. (I was suprised that the driver "took his taxi also to the toilet" as well as we could not see the car...) At 6 am I asked again the receptionist about the taxi and he replied rudely that "You aksed the taxi for 6, so it is gonna be here just at 6..." After that I did not want to talk to him, so we left the hotel. (The taxi was a private one and charged us for 180 pesos for a 15 mins drive...)
If I ever go again to Mexico I will definitely chose another hotel.

Excellently positioned near the Zoccalo. Pleasent rooms and good desk service. The Breakfast has cereal, waffles, pastries and mexican options. A good selection and there is free coffee and tea allday.

We tried to hail a cab on the road with no luck, so we asked for them to call one for us. They use a private service that is very expensive. Your better off allowing time to hail one of the street. Otherwise. Great!

While staying at Hampton Inn in Mexico City I learned that the interior of this hotel was recently remodeled. The exterior of the hotel is a beautiful historic building, while the inside clean and modern. Our room was extremely clean and comfortable. All the staff were friendly and attentive. We dined at Fishers Restaurant inside the hotel and it was wonderful, I have never had a more delicious fish. The coffee at Garabatos is the best in the city. I only have two minor complaints. One is the complimentary breakfast, the hot items were not very tasty. If you only need cold cereal and yogurt you will be satisfied. The other minor complaint was our room view that faced the wall to the adjoining building, next time I will request a room with a view of the front of the hotel.
