“UNIQUE MUSEUM”
Reviewed 14 March 2014

Beautiful museum with unique pieces of art lovely oriented to show what the artisans from all over the country with their inner guidance have designed and created. Constant expositions where they show from typical dresses to food, to vases to unique pieces made with beans, beads, hay, etc. Recommended to visit and have lunch in El Cardenal

“A gem”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

This is the museum to go to if you like folk art. It's just fabulous. The items have been curated beautifully, so the collection is not overwhelming, just breathtaking. Allow time for the museum shop, too. All in all, in my top 3 of things to see in MEX.

“A tribute to artisans”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

If you admire crafts and value the work behind them, you have to come and visit this museum. Besides exposing the most stunning handcrafts from all over the country, it invites people to think about the human value behind each piece, such as the knowledge of ancestral techniques, patience, and love for the work.
The work you find in this place shows how important it is to support artisans, so they can continue offering their art.
The museum offers different courses, counts with a coffee shop and a store with beautiful pieces, which are all hand made.
I strongly recommend to visit this museum.

“Mexico's brilliant folk art...”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

Museo de Arte Popular
This lovely museum is multi level with displays on the 2nd and 3rd floor and workshops on the 1st. At the basement level there is a shop, cafe, some other displays and the odd lecturing/performing artist.

The museum itself is simply fabulous hosting the huge variety of Mexico’s popular folk art. I am just so impressed with Mexico’s soulful connection with art and in particularly so their indigenous artistic culture. I don’t think I have been anywhere in the world where a country’s culture shines through the eyes of its artistic heritage like Mexico’s. I simply love it!

Here in the museum you have it all. There are stunning displays…miniature and otherwise…depicting the strong ‘Calacas’ or skull defined custom of Mexican popular art, displays of indigenous clothing, pottery, painting and much much more. It is also a photographers dream with the myriad of vivid colours. Simply an outstanding place and an easy 5/5. Give yourself 3-4 hours.

Not only is this a superb museum it is also in a very convenient location. When we visited we managed to visit here, the Intolerence museum, the fine arts museum and the monument of the revolution in a single stunning Mexico City day out.

Facilities
Entry-40MP.
Entry times-10am-6pm but closed on Mondays, free on Sundays.
Facilities-Cafe, shop, toilets & lift.
5/5…

This museum is chock full of Mexican folk art and handicrafts from all over Mexico. The quality of the displays is excellent and it is well worth a trip! The gift shop is excellent as well.
