My husband, brother-in-law, friend and I stayed there 3 nights the week of Thanksgiving. I picked this place based on reviews on Tripadvisor. It was an excellent value. Friendly and efficient staff. Awesome views from the terraces. Good food. The rooms facing the outside have very nice views, but are noisy. Bring ear plugs. The inner rooms facing the ventilation shaft have not view, but are quiet. The decor is tasteful and practical. It reminded me of nicer travel hotels in Europe. The location cannot be beaten. Free wireless. Filtered water comes out of its own faucet in the bathroom. Flat screen TVs if you have time to watch it. Walking distance to all points of interest downtown the historic center. We were out walking around 10PM-11PM, never felt unsafe. Things have changed downtown. Few years ago, things would shut down by 8PM, streets were dark. That's no longer the case. Maybe it's because it was close to the holiday season. Would stay at Hotel Catedral again whenever we need to stay downtown.

Room Tip: If you want views, pick a room facing outside. If you want a quiet room, pick one inside.

we stayed here for 4 nights in early november. Our first time in Mexico city had us arriving nervous but that was quickly quelled. the staff speaks english well, the rooms are clean and big. There is a purified water tap in the bathroom that you can fill your water bottles with and brush your teeth from. The breakfast in the morning has lots of choices. Its best to help yourself to coffee/tea as there is only one server who you can leave a small tip for if they actually get it for you. The location is perfect. On a couple of nights there was loud drumming near by which can interupt sleep but overall, we would stay here again. ps. don't be scared to ride the subways. They are very easy and very entertaining, oh and super cheap! Make sure you buy a cd of music from the guys with the backpack boom boxes. They are only 10 pesos. oh, there is a rubber sheet thing on the beds. take it off when you sleep as it is very hot.

Room Tip: if you reserve over the internet make sure you print off a copy of your room rate. They honoured the...

We stayed at the Catedral two years ago and had a really great experience, so it was a no-brainer to stay there again in early November.

We were happy to see the same excellent quality of the rooms and the first rate service from everyone who works there.

There's a reason this place always ranks high on Tripadvisor. It's a great place for a great price in a great location. You just can't beat this place.

The restaurant, too was improved from our last visit. The food is a lot better, especially the breakfast buffet. Also try the micheladas, simple and refreshing,

There are a lot of other restaurants close by, including an excellent espresso bar just a few doors down from the hotel.

One of the best things about this hotel is the terrace that overlooks the national cathedral. It is a great place to hang out.

The Hotel Catedral rocks. We highly recommend it.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, but if you are a light sleeper, ask for an interior room.

The run-down: I went with my friend's recommendation for this hotel and was very pleased for the week I spent in Mexico City. I really didn't hold sky-high expectations paying $60USD/night, but Hotel Catedral proved me wrong. It has pretty much everything you'd expect when paying for a mid-range chain like Sheraton or Hilton: Rooms that are up-to-date, spacious, comfortable and clean and the normal amenities (flat-panel tv, blow-dryer, etc.). The service was good - one-minute check-in and check-out, and answers to questions about finding a SIM card, ATM, etc...Free Wi-Fi service ranged from excellent to poor (and I was on the first floor!).

Breakfast is included and "gets you by". I ate at the restaurant a couple of times - decent and cheap food, especially since a lot of the local restaurants shut down after the main mealtime, which is early by American/European standards...and the best part? The location - its directly behind the Metropolitan Catedral, and a 5 minute walk from the city's main plaza, the Zocalo, and major sites like the Palacio Nacional and Templo Mayor. I will be the first one to admit, however, that this area can becom super-crowded and chaotic, especially on weekends, even though you can't get a more authentic vibe in Mexico City. There's a nice terrace on the top floor with views of the cathedral.

After multiple stays at here, as well as experiencing other hotels near the Zocalo, I have to say Hotel Catedral remains my favorite for value and service in the El Centro location. The rooms have been somewhat renovated with new televisions, not that you'll be spending that much time in there but it's nice to be able to check in with CNN in English or Spanish, or relax with a flick in the evening from Mexico's golden age of cinema on the De Pelicula channel. The rooms are quite clean, the hotel staff is friendly and helpful and the restaurant serves decent food. Book ahead, especially on weekends and during holidays.

Room Tip: Top floor has a delightful patio overlooking the city.

The catedral is a great hotel. We have stayed there 4 times as the rooms are clean, staff is very helpful, and speak English. The buffet breakfast is excellent with an assortment of mexican and north american food. And the location is ideal with the zocalo only blocks away.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony.

This hotel may lack in colonial charm but it sure makes up for that in location and value. We had a room on the 6th floor (which had been recently renovated) overlooking the Catedral. Quite spacious, very clean, and at US$75 per night including breakfast for 2 it is a great deal. Don't miss having a cerveza or cocktail on one of the charming rooftop terraces as the sun sets over the city! Very helpful staff and a safe environment. Thank you for a wonderful stay in this wonderful city!

Room Tip: rooms on the higher floors overlooking the catedral not only have a nice view but are also quitr
