Bitterly disappointed to miss what promised to be a great collection, replaced with vastly inferior contempory pieces. Is this a trend in Mexico City?, same happened when we went out to San Angel, Carrilo Gil museum, also a bitter disappointment and waste of time!,
At least at Tamayo you can refresh at the very trendy and good resto/cafe and you don't even have to buy a ticket for the crap museum, look out for ,new world fair, sign around the side, that looks like Londons ,new scotland yard , revolving sign. Nice place to refresh after visiting the magnificent Anthropology Museum.

I like Rufino Tamayo´s paintings and I enjoyed seeing this museum. The building is of great modern design. In one room there is a video display on the history of how this building was designed and built with a famous Mexican architect and Rufino Tamayo. Then the Tamayo paintings: maybe not a ton to see but well worth it, showing different eras of Tamayo´s art. In the other part of the museum were displayed paintings by other artists.

They always have good exhibitions and the permanent show is very good with lots of paintings of Rufino Tamayo. Also they display the painting bienal that shows painters from all around Mexico, that in my opinion was one of the best presentations of the museum.

Truth be told I wasn't able to see any masterpiece by Tamayo hanging on the walls of his own museum. What may count is some early works, in case you are truly interested.

The building is beautiful and so are the trees and grounds that surround it. I was able to get in free because I had an INAPAM card which was a good thing, as I spent all of 10 minutes there, and was eager to leave. I'm sure there are those who love this kind of 'art'...I'm just not one of them. On my walk back to Paseo de la Reforma, however, I discovered a wonderful display of the sculpture of Jorge Morin, which was a real delight. (A few pictures included in case you visit the Museo and are interested)
