Owner description: This neighborhood is known for its narrow cobblestone streets and is an oasis in otherwise bustling Mexico City.

We wanted to visit Bazar Sabado in San Angel but once we arrived, it was absolutely dissapointing due to excessive crowds and vehicular traffic. Also, the type of crafts that was being sold outdoors was mediocre and did not compare to the ones we had purchased on a previous trip to Mexico at other markets. The art show is set up at the main entrance and it was better than the arrival at the Bazar itself. The indoor bazar was so narrow that it was almost impossible to even touch merchandise due to the overcrowding and we left empty handed. The highlight of the day was a delicious lunch before getting back to our hotel in Avenida Reforma. Will not return to San Angel .

Visit Bazaar Sábado or else stroll around the town during the week. Easy to reach. San Angelin Inn and Sak's have wonderful menus, wine and offer fair prices.

Take the Metro to Miguel Angel de Quevedo. Walk west until you see Av de la Paz. Turn left on La Paz until you get to the first little plaza where all the art work is displayed for the Saturday Bazaar. The next larger plaza displays arts and crafts. Then follow Amargura and Juarez to admire all the beautiful old colonial mansions. Keep walking, Juarez changes to Hidalgo, then turn left on Arbol and left again into a cul-de-sac - Plaza de los Arcangeles - an absolutely delightful corner of San Angel.

Luckily we decided to go there on a Saturday, only to realize that its the only day its there. Although the area with beautifully cobble-stoned streets is there always but the charm of walking between lanes of artists selling and painting amazing works is something totally different.

Definitely recommended for anyone interested to see a different side to Mexico City.

San Angel has a Saturday open market that is full of life and is very relaxed and safe. Artist display their art work in the parks. There is a ex convent museum across the street from the main park that is worth seeing. There is lots of art work in the convent that are very old. The convent gives you and idea of life in convents during the early history of New Spain.
