I loved La Opera bar. Not because of particularly outstanding service, but simply for the historic value. The great architecture is a plus.

I ordered, and enjoyed, the tortilla soup with a couple of beers. I do not have a whole lot to say about the place except it is a nice place to stop, have a few beers, listen to a mariachi or a trio, and then go on your way.

Sure the place is atmospheric, but that's about it.
The food is not good, the service very impersonal. And they add funny things to your bill.

The best option is certainly to come and have a drink by the bar. But you should avoid the restaurant

We stop here only because we have come downtown on a Saturday afternoon. Its old and has character. The building is owned by the government and leased to the bar owner. We never eat here, we just have a drink at the bar. This is a daytime place. The streets clear out at dark.

I was extremely disappointed with this place. We had the worst service ever when we went to la Opera last week-end. After spending 3 months in Meixco city, i have visited many bars and restaurants, but i never had such a rude service as in La Opera. The decor is worth seeing, but that's about it. The manager and waiters are rude, and they refused to serve us because we did not order a complete order, but rather drinks and appetizers. There are many other much better options in the center.

I went there over the weekend with a friend and the manager was rude and wouldn't give us a table even though half the place was empty because we were only 2 customers. There are far better options downtown with a much better service
