So historic and gorgeous architecture. So many different chapels. The choir room in the chancel area was amazing.

A visit to the Basilica is imperative to understanding Mexican culture. Both the original and new basilicas have their own charm. It's a miracle that the original structure is still (barely) standing through the ages and earthquakes. The newer church has the cape of Juan Diego that can be viewed from behind the altar, a inspirational experience. Believer or not, Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico and should be respected for her powerful presence.

If you have seen other churches in Europe, this one will be disappointing. It took me 10 minutes to visit, as there is not much really. Just admire the exterior part which is fabulous

We went on sunday and it was packed with pilgrimage from all over Mexico!! They dress up in their costume andIbanners. set up tents and tarps listening to sermon broadcast during the day. The place is quite big.
If you prefer the lone time there maybe week day is better.
Even though there are thousand of people there,we felt their spirit of worshipping.

The Basilica area sort of just "appears" in the north side of town. The old Basilica and associated churches and buildings are beautiful to view. The new Basilica is "modern" (by 1970 terms?), and is more beautiful on the inside than the out, in my view. Great way to spend an hour or two, and then buy a trinket or two in the numerous shops around the periphery.
