We spent 3 nights at the Gran Hotel.....we booked through Trip Advisor and got a great rate.
The hotel is gorgeous, on the corner of the historic Zocalo....great view from the rooftop, wonderful service the entire time. Very large rooms with high ceilings....the food was good, although there are tons of places to eat nearby...."El Cardenal", "El Popular", the original "Sanborns" etc. I would not go on the pyramid and Basilica tour from the hotel as it takes all day and you are taken to some very touristy places to buy and eat. Everything in the historic area is within walking area of this hotel. We highly recommend it.

This was a beautiful hotel, stunning foyer, very reasonable rates, excellent bar on the fifth floor overlooking zocalo, delicious food, nice clean room, arranged transfer to airport promptly, yummy breakfast in the cafe included in the price, safe provided, complimentary late checkout (2 hours extra), best location on the zocalo and the service was first class. Cynthia at the front desk s extremely helpful in all respects. would recommend to friends and family.

This is a perfectly located hotel with stunning views of Mexico's historic Zocalo. Although the hotel is located directly on the central plaza, the rooms are quiet and darkened with effective floor to ceiling black-out drapes. The staff is warm and helpful. This a a stunning historic building with modern amenities and excellent in-hotel restaurants and lounges. I would recommend this hotel. It would be a dream hotel for a honeymoon.

It was my first travel in Mexico. I reserved a Room through Bookings.com after reading the reviews published on Tripadvisor.
At my arrival in the late evening I found a very well prepared receptionist, she was able to speak an excellent english so I didn't have problems with my poor spanish.
The hotel is more than beautiful, the Liberty Dome is wonderful and everything as a Belle Epoque fashion. All the furnitures and the moquette looks brand new.
The room was very big and clean, as well as the bathroom, equipped with all the necessary (I also found bathcoat, slippers and brush and toothpaste).
The wireless connection was very fast and I was able to use skype with my family in Italy without problems.
The room was also equipped with SAT TV, Iron and Coffee Machine, whilst at the first floor was available for the guests a well equipped Fitness Room.
The breakfast was very rich notwithstanding there was a menu "à la carte" instead of a buffet as in Europe. The quality of the fud was Excellent. I tried also the Restaurant on the 4th floor. Rich and very good dishes and amazing view of Zocalo Square.
Only onte thing to improve: more foreign and European Channels on the SAT TV.

Room Tip: The Zocalo is a bit noisy on Weekend evenings, ask for a room with view on internal court.

This was a one night stopover on our way to Selva Lacandona Chiapas. It is a lovely vintage hotel, Art Nouveau style. Reasonably priced for how beautiful and clean it is . Plush bedding, VERY clean. It is right accross the street from the Zocalo,we were blown away by the beautiful decorations at the hotel and in the Zocalo . Since we arrived early in the morning the staff was very accomodating, they allowed us to store our luggage there so we could tour the city . We asked them to have a van to pick up our family at the airport, he ended up being our guide the whole day and this guy was a walking History book. In one day he took us to the Basilica of our Lady of Guadalupe, Tlatelolco, and Teotihuacan. That night we even had time to venture out on our own, we took the subway to Garibaldi ( seperate review) which was tons of fun.

The rooftop bar offers spectacular views of downtown Mexico City. It's a terrific way to spend an afternoon drinking cervezas, catching up with friends, and recharging your batteries as you explore La Ciudad. The food is surprisingly good, too.

Kudos to manager Israel and server Juan for their advice and kind words.
