“Best Hotel & Fantastic Location”
Reviewed 9 September 2012

When I initially made the reservation, I thought it was too good to be true . . . a beautiful hotel in the historic district of Mexico City at a reasonable price. Fortunately, it was all true and then some. We asked for a quiet room and were treated to an amazing suite that was simply beautiful. Staying at the hotel is like stepping back in time. The lobby area is stunning, especially when you look up. The hotel staff was very professional and extremely helpful. Could not ask for more except to have stayed longer.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room. It doesn't have a view, but will take that any day over a good night'...

We would also had wished to attend you for larger period. Nevertheless we feel very proud to know that the days you stayed with us were satisfying for you and that you were pleased with both our building and our staff. We also feel very pleased to know that you asked us for a more quiet room. We dearly appreciate when our guests express us their particular requirements for their stays since they give us the opportunity to offer them more alternatives for achieving their satisfacvtion. Like in this case, we were able to offer you one of our Internal rooms, which are ideal for more relaxed and calmed experiences. We hope that you continue on giving us the chance to receive you since this way we will be able to learn more about your particular preference towards your lodging experiences and will be able to best match them.

We traveled from Playa del Carmen to join an event and we stayed 2 nights in this fabulous hotel. I visited the hotel with a friend 2 years ago and now I wanted to show my husband this hotel. It has the best location in the Historic Center and we had a room overlooking the Zocalo. The staff was helpful and friendly. Our room spacious and clean. The only thing was that after the event we came in the hotel round midnight and everything was closed in the hotel and also his surroundings. Coming from Playa del Carmen were the nightlife just begins at that time we realized that the historic center is not the place for party. No problem. Just for your knowledge. Overall we had a very good stay and I will recommend the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We could not feel happier to know that you had such a good experience on your last stay with us, that you decided to give us again the opportunity to attend you. About our location, we would like to mention that it is popular for having a wide variety of venues to offer to every visitor. It is commonly claimed for tourists due to its historical and architectural value, not to mention the number of museums that are located nearby. Nevertheless there are also some places nearby specially dedicated to the nightlife and which we gladly recommend to our guests who desire to visit them. Our concierge is well familiarized with these places and, if required, he even arranges a Taxi service for our guests who decide to visit these locations. Please do not hesitate in asking him for these spots on your next visit. We are sure you will also have a good time by enjoying the nightlife in the Downtown area of Mexico City.

We booked this hotel as it was centrally located near the Zocola so we could use it as a base to discover Mexico city. The hotel is fantastic looking building that made it somewhere special to stay. As a result of it being such a beautiful building it is popular for weddings and events, this does mean that if the party continues into the evening you may be able to hear the music in your room. unfortunately this happened during our stay and disturbed my partner (I slept right through it!). This minor irritation aside the staff at the hotel were wonderfully helpful providing help and advice about the trips and visits we were making, booking restaurants and taxis as well as dealing with our other requests. Special thanks to Cynthia Gomez and Sergio Consuetos who were terrific throughout our stay.

We feel very proud to know that you found helpful the assistance provided by the members of our Front Desk staff. They, as well as the rest of our staff, are fond of assisting our guests towards any requirement they might have in order to achieve the excellence in their experiences with us.
As for the noise you mention, we are sorry to know that it disturbed your partner. When we have the pleasure of receiving guests that are not involved in the organization of a particular event, we carefully design the assignation of our rooms in order to prevent any inconveniences from happening to them. Due to this we assign our most silent and farthest rooms to these external guests although sometimes this can get complicated due to the type of room they booked. We only wished we had more details about the kind of room you were assigned to so we could carefully check the application of this measurement. Nevertheless we assure you that in case you require it, our colleagues at the Front Desk will be more than happy in changing your room into one that best fits into your requirements. We hope that you will consider staying with us again since it was our pleasure to receive you. You will always be gladly welcomed with us.

Probably one of the most architecturally stunning historical Deco buildings I have EVER seen!

The Good:
An amazing bargain at under $100. We paid $75 in low season!
The service is great. They are very accommodating and even upgraded us at no charge. Very nice.

The location is noisy but you trade a view of the Zocalo for a bit of noise. We didn't mind.

The Bad:
The devil is in the details. The windows need to be cleaned at the top and the bottom. The drapes need to be cleaned as do the drape pulls.

Room Tip: Try to get a Zocalo view.

Thank you for taking the time to express your opinions about us by this media. About the details on the windows you kindly mention, we would like to thank you for your attentions. We always appreciate the feedback we receive from our guests because it gives us the chance to keep improving our services.
As for this particular situation, we would only wish to have more details about the room you stayed in. Nevertheless we would like you to know that, in collaboration with our Housekeeper, we have established a new revision of the rooms specially focusing on this detail. We are sure that this will help us locate this aspects when existing and would also help us in fixing them immediately.
We hope that you think of us for your next visit to Mexico City. It will always be a pleasure to receive you.

This hotel was immaculate; I do not have any negative comments as our stay was perfect. The rooms are spacious, the restaurants were excepational, great costumer service throughout the hotel. Special thanks to Daniel C. in the restaurant by the lobby. He waited on us every morning and by the second day he knew precisely what we wanted. Once again, this hotel was excellent I will definately stay here again and will recommend family and friends to do the same.

Room Tip: If your room faces the Socalo it might be a bit noise. I would recommend a room that does not face t...

I booked this hotel for a trip I planned for my partners 30th birthday, and my choice was based on the reviews already on here! We stayed for 9 days and it more than lived up to the expectations we had. Staff were wonderful and helpful with our requests for trips and tours, the building itself is a work of art, the breakfasts were varied and delicious, we had one evening meal at the hotel and it was fantastic and the cocktails in the bars up stairs matched the views over the square.
Our room was exceptional, we slept very soundly, the bath was very comfortable and it was very clean and our lovely maids maintained it really well (we especially loved the chocolate lady bringing us treats!) It made a fantastic base to come back to after a day on our feet and travelling around the surrounding areas in the sun.
It's a great location with some lovely markets in walking distance and access to the under ground across the square.
Thank you Gran Hotel for a truly memorable trip.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great but if you can get one with a view of the square it's even more special

Close to numerous monuments and resturants. The hotel is in a great location. . .The staff was always courteous, friendly and extremely helpful.

The room was always very clean and serviced in a timely manner. The entire hotel was very quite even though we were so close to many attractions. Our room was very big and warm.

The staff was also very knowledgable about the different sites we wanted to visit and also what metros to take. Obviously they made our trip much nicer.

We feel proud to know that the assistance provided by our colleagues improved your recent stay with us. It is also excellent to know that you were able to visit some of the numerous touristic spots nearby. Hope you also had the chance of going to a favorite choice among our foreign guests: Teotihuacan.
This archeological zone is very close to Mexico City and mostly known for its pyramids. Before the Spaniard conquest over the different civilizations that habited our country back in the 1500´s, this site was major city and a very important religious center. In 1987 it was declared “World Heritage” by the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and nowadays it functions as one of the most important touristic spots in Mexico. In the hotel we count with tours to this site; which is very popular among our guests. Perhaps you would like to take it for your next stay, we are sure your would have a good time!
