We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights while we visited the city for the Day of the Dead.

First of all, the location is absolutely superb - it is right next to the main square, in the very heart of Mexico City. It is around 20-25minutes from the airport too. Even though our room was not overlooking the square, we could use the roof terrace that had the best possible view of the square and the cathedral.

Secondly, the building itself is beautiful. The roof itself is probably one of the most impressive I've seen in my life. The hotel is very stylish and whoever decorated it paid a lot of attention to detail. The staff also put an altar for the Day of the Dead in the lobby which was a nice add-on too. The fact that people from the outside come to the lobby only to take photos of the roof speaks for itself.

The room was very clean and definitely spacious enough for two people. The service was very good and every day the room was brought back to the perfect state. The receptionist was very friendly and helped us to book transport to San Andres Mixquic for the Day of the Dead celebrations.

Overall, a very impressive hotel and I would definitely pick it again during my future trips to Mexico City.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 4th floor so pretty close to the terrace, which has a fantastic view of the squa...

For my first trip to Mexico City, I wanted to stay at a hotel that was central to local attractions and transportation. This hotel is charming and beautiful. The lobby ceiling is a must see. The rooftop restaurant not only has breathtaking views of the Zocolo, but great food. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the Sunday brunch. I highly recommend it.

We originally planned on staying at this hotel towards the end of our trip, but ended up staying here sooner than we planned. Our original hotel had some sort of plumbing or construction issue and sent us to the Gran Hotel. The staff was very accommodating. The beds were not very comfortable. But we made sure we had a king size bed for our second stay which was a lot better. The bathrooms were spacious and gorgeous.

One draw back for us was the noise level outside. Our room faced a very noisy retail shop that played obnoxious dance music from the time they opened until they closed. Besides that you can hear all the street traffic.

I definitely plan on returning to this hotel. It's good for couples and families.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view (facing the Zocolo)...that way the noise levels are better.

It is very satisfying for us to know that you had an excellent stay during your trip in Mexico City. Thank you for tasting our delicious courses in “Restaurant La Terraza”, Brunch is served every weekend from 8 to 18hrs.
We are deeply sorry to know the exterior noise disturbed your stay. Fortunately, nowadays the authorities are checking that “safe dB levels” from the surrounding are respected. Nevertheless we always count with the alternative on an Internal View room for our guests that enjoy a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. We always are willing to full satisfy our guests, so please do not hesitate in requesting one of these rooms for your next stay and if the availability allows us we will be more than pleased in assigning you one.
It will be great to welcome you very soon!

We traveled to Mexico City for Day of the Dead. We have spent Day of the Dead in Oaxaca and Patzcuaro and wanted to experience the festivities in a bigger city. Mexico City and the Gran Hotel Ciudad did not disappoint! Upon TA recommendations, we stayed by the Zocolo because it was our first time in Mexico City. Perfect suggestion! Everything is in walking distance. The hotel is a beautiful, historic hotel with tons of atmosphere, a good restaurant and nightly bar, nice rooms and wonderful views of the Zocolo. Because some reviewers mentioned noise at night, we were a bit concerned. This was unfounded. Even though the Zocolo was alive with Day of the Dead activities and literally thousands of people were in the Historic Center, we were never bothered by the noise. The hotel arranged for us to have an English speaking driver named Cristian. We used him for many hours over a four day period. His English was good and he was a careful driver. He is their only English speaking driver. We recommend him highly...but, he is a driver and not a guide. Know where you want to go and what you want to do in advance. Many of our friends were very worried about safety in Mexico City. There is a large police presence around the Zocolo. Don't be surprised by this....it makes you feel very safe. We walked all over the Historic District and traveled far afield with Cristian. We never felt unsafe or threatened in any way.

Room Tip: Book a room on the Zocola....totally worth it!

The location is perfect, right on the Zocalo. The service was very good and to stay in such a grand place was wonderful. The hotel is very old and tired in parts. The lighting is quite poor and make it all seem dim. The decor is OK but in places the curtains were torn. That said, we enjoyed our stay at Gran Hotel.

Thank you for your preference. It is a real pleasure to know that you enjoyed your stay. Nevertheless we feel sorry to know you had such an impression of our hotel´s Art Nouveau style. Even though we characterize ourselves as a classic hotel by using elements that perfectly harmonize with the original architecture of our building, we assure you we contain every twenty- century luxury and all of our furniture and equipments are constantly checked. As for the lighting we would like to mention that we use special energy-saving light bulbs specially selected following the illumination requirements of the different areas at the hotel.
Be sure we will continue to pay attention to the aspects you kindly mention and take your opinion in count for future improvements. We hope to keep having the privilege of receiving you every time you visit Mexico City!

The rooms are really big and it's a very nice hotel. The building is historic and the lobby ceiling is impressive. We got treats every day as well, there was fruits and chocolates, it was a really nice touch.

If you stay at this hotel, you can go to the rooftop restaurant without the need to dine there to enjoy views of the Zocalo.
