My husband and I stayed at the hotel for a week in November. Expedia had indicated that breakfasts were included in the price, but when we arrived the hotel records showed otherwise. Receptionist Minerva very kindly overlooked the discrepancy and gave us complementary meal tickets.

Our room (#302) was spacious, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. The king-sized bed was superb. The mini-bar was filled with a variety of drinks and snacks. The bathroom was elegant and had more toiletries than most hotels we've stayed at. There was plenty of hot water for the shower/bath and the water pressure was excellent.

Initially we found the air in our room quite stuffy, but once we figured out how to open the enormous windows overlooking the zocalo that problem was solved. Yes, our outside room was a bit noisy during the day and early evening but the view was highly entertaining. There was always something interesting going on outside. For example, the day of our arrival coincided with the Day of the Dead: there were mammoth tents set up in the zocalo and people were lining up to visit the colourful shrines that were on display. We would definitely ask for the same room again.

A few doors up from the hotel we found a handy pharmacy as well as a convenience store. There's also a tiny, busy, Italian restaurant with delicious food at a good price. Within walking distance are many fantastic museums and historic sites. We were dispappointed with the very expensive Ballet Folklorio but thoroughly enjoyed Lucha Libre (much to my surprise!)

We had breakfast every day at the hotel and were impressed with the selection and quality of the food available. Even more impressive were the staff at the ground-floor restaurant: they were attentive, efficient, and warm. Sadly we weren't able to pack them in our bags and bring them back to Canada. (But Viridiana, don't forget that you have pinky-finger PROMISED to visit us in 2015!)

Finally, on the day of our 35th wedding anniversary, staff delivered cake and chocolate-dipped strawberries to our room with Happy Anniversary drizzled in chocolate across the plate.

We miss you all.

So glad we chose this hotel in the very heart of the city. After checking on TA we asked for a room overlooking the square (Rm 203); although it's a little noisier (take earplugs) it's a wonderful outlook over the National Palace (Diego Rivera murals), Cathedral etc. The building itself is a work of art. The rooms are spacious, traditional and the beds very comfortable - very nice not to be staying at a generic hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although they have their own rooftop restaurant with an amazing view, it's also very close to some other great restaurants - El Cardenale is wonderful for breakfast/lunch and definitely try their hot chocolate. The best dinner we had was at Los Girasoles - fantastic modern Mexican, recommended by the excellent Concierge Jose Luis Valadez. Another great restaurant to try is Café Tacuba. Definitely book a tour to the Pyramids with Miguel the tour operator, do the red bus tour and also go see the Frida Kahlo Museum and Chapultepec Castle. The only negatives are very minor: Firstly, if you want to stay in an upmarket and fashionable suburb this hotel won't suit you, you're probably better off heading towards the Polanco district. Secondly, if you're a coffee/tea snob like us, don't order either in the breakfast café in the hotel - they only serve the hideous American perc coffee and they just don't understand about tea! Order the hot chocolate instead. The Mayan breakfast is delicious, much better than the American. PS Loved the canaries in the lobby!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the square are noisier, but have a much more interesting aspect. Just take some earplugs!

We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights while we visited the city for the Day of the Dead.

First of all, the location is absolutely superb - it is right next to the main square, in the very heart of Mexico City. It is around 20-25minutes from the airport too. Even though our room was not overlooking the square, we could use the roof terrace that had the best possible view of the square and the cathedral.

Secondly, the building itself is beautiful. The roof itself is probably one of the most impressive I've seen in my life. The hotel is very stylish and whoever decorated it paid a lot of attention to detail. The staff also put an altar for the Day of the Dead in the lobby which was a nice add-on too. The fact that people from the outside come to the lobby only to take photos of the roof speaks for itself.

The room was very clean and definitely spacious enough for two people. The service was very good and every day the room was brought back to the perfect state. The receptionist was very friendly and helped us to book transport to San Andres Mixquic for the Day of the Dead celebrations.

Overall, a very impressive hotel and I would definitely pick it again during my future trips to Mexico City.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 4th floor so pretty close to the terrace, which has a fantastic view of the square (make sure to go there for brunch or dinner). It was also very quiet there. Lifts are pretty fast so getting to our rooms wasn't too much of a hassle.
