“Very Nice”
Reviewed 15 March 2005

La Casona is wonderful for gracious service, unique charm, an interesting location, and comfortable amenities. The nearby areas of Roma and Condessa are like the Village, with cafes and great dining. It is also easily accessible to Zona Rosa. The service is wonderful and you will always feel well cared for by the friendly doormen, the turn-down chocolates, the cozy bathrobes, etc. The building is very charming and fun to explore. I found a wonderfully affordable rate online for our stay, so I accordingly expected one of the smaller rooms described in the online reviews posted here. While it was somewhat dark in terms of natural light and not enormous and even had the cherub theme one reviewer expressed disgust at, it was actually extremely comfortable with tasteful decor, plenty of lamps, a very large bathroom, a sumptuous bed, nice toiletries, and basically everthing else to make one's stay feel 5-star (even if one is in the budget room!). While the free breakfast buffet was very nice, we loved ordering the inexpensive but wonderful room service huevos rancheros. This is a unique and lovely choice for Mexico City.

Unlike some of your other reviewers my husband I had a great if too short stay at La Casona last October. We loved our room which looked out onto the street (lively during day, quiet at night with double hung french-type doors), great bathroom and all told just a lovely place. We've told all our friends about it and would definitely go back. The staff was wonderful, especially considering our language skills and helped us make a bus by getting us special taxi service when we were running very late. Wish I were there right now!

If you like boutique hotels, you will probably like this place. However, be aware that some interior rooms are very dark and that the location is close only to the Zona Rosa.

We spent five nights at La Casona over Christmas and could not have been more satisfied with the place. It is located in an excellent neighbourhood, just a 15minute walk from the Athropology Museum, a few streets away from the trendy cafes of Condesa and there is a subway station just two blocks away.
Our room was spacious and was furnished in a perfectly inoffensive antique style. It opened on to a central atrium – which meant the room was dark, but it would also help keep it cool in the summer. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. Best of all, the staff were exceptionally helpful, providing information and assistance which made our stay in Mexico City memorable foir all the right reasons.

La Casona is in a great location. The service is good. Unfortunately, the room that I was assigned was the WORST HOTEL ROOM I HAVE EVER STAYED IN. The room was miniscule, and the only window faced a narrow light shaft, rather than outside, making the room feel even more cramped and clausterphobic. The furnishings appeared to be garage sale finds. There was an oppressive cherub design motif. The television had a 12" screen. I felt as if I had stepped into the twilight zone. On the plus side, however, there were extensive cable TV offerings. And as I walked down the hall on my was to check out the next morning, I was able to survey some of the other rooms. All were nicer than mine had been. Most even had windows... Would I stay there again? It's pretty far down on my list.

We stayed for four days at La Casona in May of 2004, and we could not have had a better experience. The staff is extremely helpful and mostly English speaking, the beds are comfortable and rooms cleverly appointed. It is a little bit more off the beaten path and you will have to walk a little or take cabs if you want to get anywhere, but it is not terribly far from the subway, and that can help hasten the journey. If you want to stay somewhere that isn't a chain, La Casona is the place to stay in Mexico City.

Note: my fiancee did get ill eating the cheese on the last day in the breakfast buffet. We don't think it is the kitchen's fault nearly as much as it is the gastrnomic adventure of eating in a country that uses (potentially) unpasturized milk in their food.

La Casona is a very quiet and charming boutique hotel.
Ideally located, it only took us 20 minutes to reach the nearby exciting 'Zona Rosa'.
Our room was very clean and well furnished with 2 large wardrobes and a huge tub.
Breakfasts are gorgeous with fruits, cereals, breads & buns and nature fruit juice.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, we really enjoyed this great place!
