I love walking the streets of Centro Historico, the architecture, history, and vibrancy of the place are my favorite characteristics that this neighborhood possesses.

Each street, each building is an architectural delight, varied architectural styles makes the centro a very pleasant place to just stroll and admire the grandiose buildings.

The historic centro to me is the Zocolo area highlighted here in wikipediahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zócalo . There are many pictures on this review page of other areas of the city i.e. the Palace of Fine Arts. Now these places are stunning too but do remember the historic centre is the huge plaza of the Zocolo which is surrounded by cathedral, the national palace and the old federal buildings. Nearby...to the right of the cathedral is also the aztec temple de mayor antiquity site too. All in all this place is huge (one of the biggest plazas in the world, 2nd only to the red square in Moscow) and reeks of history. You need several days to see everything in this area but you can rush it all in in one day. Many of the buildings nearby contain prestiges artwork, sculptures and are beautiful in their own right. Don't miss this place, this is the beating historic heart of Mexico.

Nice place to visit, there is so much going on in the Zocalo. A definite must see for a first time visitor.

Mexico City's Centro Histórico is no doubt one of the nicest in Spanish America, perhaps the nicest. Most buildings are well preserved from colonial times, so it's a great architectural treat. There are too many places to visit to even cite some examples. Just make sure you do a long walk through this historical centre if you visit Mexico City.

The Centro Historico is fascinating; many buildings from the 16th century. The zocolo is only flat concrete but was the site of organized marches; an army display and a fair. If you stay in the area, you can see much more.
