“Not what I expected.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

Very tired room...clean but...not a remodeled room they show in pictures. Asked for one and they said all had been remodeled.
Closet door broken...we were there for 5 days and never came to fix and asked three times. Back side of hotel is not very nice along side street.
Stated they had jaquiizi...I never found it...workout facility was not much.
I will say breakfast was excellent. Would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for high up remodeled room.

I always stay here in Mexico City. Incredible value in the price bracket. Great staff. Close to all the places I like. Convenient for public transport. And now the somewhat iffy internet is really really excellent. Get the rate that includes breakfast. It's on the 10th floor. You won't need lunch. I was in 12th floor room for the 7.2 earthquake. Scary, and I mean really scary, but building was fine. Felt like a roller coaster and gave me real bragging rights when I got home last night. For best rooms schmooze the gals at reception. I have never had a bad room like some people seem to say, but I have never not schmoozed. Hey this is Mexico, not a sterile airport hotel in Minneapolis. It's worth a couple of minutes chatting to them and then asking what rooms they have and which has the best view, which is comfortable, where are the best restaurants that their Dad takes them to, what's their mother's name, and what a lovely name they have, and what a great hair style they have. You know what I mean, and if you don't, then don't bother traveling abroad. You are wasting your money. Just stay home in Pittsburgh, watch TV, and enjoy chatting to the people that call to sell you life insurance. Have fun!

Room Tip: See above. Higher floors are good and quiet.

I stayed at the Hotel Fontan 2 weeks ago and was not so impressed when I arrived because I had booked a king room and was assigned a double room that was not remodeled. Don't get me wrong, room was clean and all but I had gotten excited with the pictures of the new king remodeled rooms. It was too late at night and decided to ask for a switch of rooms until the next morning and that's exactly what I did. I went to the front desk and it took less than 10 minutes until I was in my so desired king remodeled room! The receptionist asked if I wanted to go and see it before they would actually assigned me to the new room so I agreed. What a difference!!! This room had all I asked for and more! Room was not huge but yet very spacious. Very nice restroom, good working A/C , the view was amazing!! I could see the "Monumento del Caballito" from my room and was so delighted! What can I say! The location was perfect! I was in the middle of my favorite spots in Mexico City Reforma and Downtown. Withing walking distance of everything I enjoy visiting. I'm just in love with Mexico CIty and plan on returning to this hotel on my next visit! I will definitely request a room on their 3rd floor when I return!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on their third floor facing Reforma.

stayed 3 days at start of holiday. Better than expected from previous reviews. Arrived late evening and reception dimly lit, but check in efficient. Room was 'tired' but clean. Beds made and comfortable (I like a firmish bed). Fresh bottled water each day. Room was overlooking side street so noise not an issue - it is after all a city hotel and some noise expected. Housekeeping good with clean towels and waterglasses each day. Good room safe, easy to operate. Although previous reviwers complained about WiFi it was fast and reliable in room (on second floor). Convenient location about 20 mins easy walk to main square, Zocalo. Did not use hotel for food. Overall a satisfactory hotel for initial stay in Mexico.

Room Tip: 1st and 2nd room floors appear to get good WiFi signal

No isolation in our room, it was really cold and noisy because of very old and non-functional windows. There was no heating although it was January-February (cold at night). We complained at the reception but they showed no compassion, said that there was no better room available. There are though some renovated rooms in the hotel which must be better. The only positive thing was hotel's location.

My wife and I stayed at the Fontan hotel on Reforma in Mexico City for 6 days in January 2014. While there, we also took advantage of many tours, most from the adjacent travel agency. As far as the hotel is concerned, the staff is outstanding....very professional and always helpful. The rooms are nicely appointed and very clean. The best part is the hotel's central location....AND very close to a Starbuck's, a number of restaurants, and only a few blocks from a great shopping mall.

Room Tip: We asked for a room not far from the elevator, facing Reforma street, and on the 3rd floor or higher...
