“Basic 3 star hotel in the Roma neighborhood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2012

My host made this reservation for me for 3 nights. The Stanza has a comfortable lobby (spent time waiting in the lobby for group activities to compense). The room had a king size bed and was comfortable (firm mattress). Bathroom had good water pressure and was large. Breakfast (which was included) was a full Mexican Buffet. I don't eat meats in the morning so I ate pancakes and fresh fruit. They did not have the usual granola and yogurt that I prefer. Coffee was not as strong as I prefer.

I was traveling alone, I didn't book for a room. When I arrived to the hotel I asked for a single room and they said yes, we have single rooms. I filled the information card and I was going to pay then a member of the staff said, you know what, we just have double bedroom. I will charge you for one of those. They realized I was tired and I didn't want to look for another hotel, they took advantage of that. Later I realized the hotel was not busy, it was almost empty so obviously they had single rooms. Hotel was good but I don't like this kind of dishonesty.

Room Tip: Book a room in advance.

the hotel stanza is a very centrally located hotel in fashionable Roma neighborhood. It is modern, clean and the staff are very helpful most speaking English. The neighborhood is full of places to eat and drink and close enough to walk to the main street the Reforma. I did miss having cnn or bbc english news on the tv

My first visit to Mexico City and The Stanza is perfectly located in the Roma district. It's a lovely area full of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Easy to get to the tourist attractions as taxi's and the metro are close at hand. The hotel staff are very helpful, the rooms are clean and a good size and the TV has lots of English speaking channels. Ask for a room away from the street and the lifts if you have a choice, they are quieter.

We had some air miles we wanted to use, and I found out that we could use them to stay at the Hotel Stanza.

We downloaded and printed a voucher which gave us two nights going out and two returning.

We requested an interior room, ie, one not facing the street, and that was granted. It had a dresser-desk, a small table and an easy chair and a small bench. If there were any negatives, the small room did not have enough space to use all the furniture effectively. It was nice to have a reasonably capacious closet, whereas some budget hotels in which we've stayed recently have nearly no closet space.

We received a nice welcome once at the hotel, and check in was very easy. More than a few of the staff speak good English.

The Standard Double room we were given was quite a bit smaller than those in which we stayed before at this hotel. However, it was adequate for our needs. Most of all, it was relatively quiet, other than noises from other guests, and the beds comfortable.

The bathroom was small but serviceable. The hot water came out of the shower head fast and with decent pressure.

I was very pleased that the wifi worked consistently, without interruption, although a little slow.

It almost goes without saying that the housekeeping was very good.

There was a good TV with HBO and some other channels with American movies with Spanish subtitles.

We didn't try the hotel's Wings Restaurant

Room Tip: The interior room, #501, on the fifth floor is quiet but substantially smaller than rooms facing the...

I just don't know where to begin.

What do you say about a hotel that, on the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, manages to get a room cleaned up by 9:00 am so two exhausted travelers can nap between getting off a flight and catching a bus?

You say "Sounds like Hotel Stanza!"

What do you say about a hotel located on the edge of two of the best neighborhoods to wander in Mexico City, two neighborhoods filled with bistros, cantinas, taquerias, shops, fashion boutiques, new and used book stores, art galleries, and some of the best open air markets, including a weekend vintage, antique and original art market that starts right outside the hotel's front door?

"Must be the Stanza."

What do you say about a hotel where the rooms are clean, the water pressure is perfect, the housekeeping staff is adorable, and where you can iron a shirt while looking out at a breathtaking view of the city and surrounding mountains?

"Ah, The Stanza."

What do you say about a hotel that has on-call drivers who will take you anywhere you want to go in the DF -- with the least amount of time sitting in traffic -- for the princely sum of around $10 US?

"Gotta be The Stanza."

And what do you say about a hotel that's all of the above, and costs barely over $400 US for a 7-night stay, checking out on December 25?

"We're not staying anywhere else in Mexico City but at Hotel Stanza!!!!"

Room Tip: Ask for an "inside" room.

My wife and I have become good friends with a writer who wrote a very popular book about Mexico City. He invited us to stay with him in his large apartment in the Colonia Condessa, one of the most popular and architectually beautiful sections of Mexico City. We thanked him for the invitation, but we wanted a full week in Mexico City and felt that we would be imposing. We asked him to recommend a hotel near his apartment, and he immediately mentioned the Hotel Stanza, a place where he stayed as his apartment was being readied for his occupancy.

Whenever we travel, I like to do as much research on the internet as possible before we go. We were really excited about going to Mexico City this year, our eighth trip in a row to Mexico. Mexico City, however, came with a caveat, and that was that you don't go to Mexico City to relax. It's an incredibly exciting and vibrant city, and with so much to see and do, we were always going to be on the go. Therefore, we needed a hotel to fit our needs, a clean, quiet place, centrally located and reasonably priced. The Hotel Stanza was the perfect hotel in all respects, and we're already planning a return visit.

Located on the Avenida Alvaro Obregon in the Colonia Roma, it not only has a perfect location, right near a metro stop, metro buses and available cabs, it also has one of the best street markets I've ever seen right outside, on the Avenida Alvaro Obregon, and it's there every weekend. As for the hotel itself, the rooms were modern, tastefully decorated, cleaned every morning and the price we paid was amazingly low for a full seven night stay. My recommedation would be to ask for an inside room, one off the street, because you can get a lot of street noise if your room is facing the two streets that border the hotel.

The hotel has a restaurant, internet, room service, an exercise room that we didn't use since we were walking so much, and then the real bonus, a separate room on the top floor with three irons and ironing boards. The hotel also has a laundry service, but the top draw for me was how incredibly warm and professional the staff was, eager to make your stay a memorable one. We showed up on the day we arrived in Mexico City, planning to take a bus to the beach that night for a week and then return, just to check on our reservation. We hadn't planned for the fact that we were totally exhausted and needed to rent a room for the day. It was early in the morning, and we had no reservation for that day, yet they told us it would be no problem to find us a room. They directed us to the hotel's cafe for breakfast, and midway through breakfast they came to our table to tell us that our room was ready for us. The staff who ran the hotel were simply wonderful.

I can't say enough about the Hotel Stanza. It really was the perfect hotel for our trip, and I couldn't see staying anywhere else when we return.

Room Tip: Request a room on the inside, off of the street to assure a great night's sleep.
