“Not friendly at all”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

my friend and I we stayed at this hotel for a week and the owners 2 gays couple were not friendly at all, they didn't have hot water at nights because they use solar system and the breakfast was really bad, the staff was friendly but they gave me the sensation that the owners don't allow the staff be too friendly with the costumers. the floor of the room makes lots of noise as long as the house is old but they did a great job in the decoration inside. as an ecological hotel they prohibit to do lot of things inside the hotel like using toilet paper, we stayed 1 week and they never did change the towels or the bed sheets. the area where the hotel is located is really dangerous at night, it's located far away from the downtown and away from the touristic attractions.
definitely they are not friendly at all with gay couples. prices are too expensive for the quality of the guest house. i really don't recommend this hotel to my friends.
my experience in a Eco hotel was very bad. i prefer one hotel where i can take a shower at nights after baring.

Room Tip: Oaxaca room is less noisy

What can I say to answer this review? It is just surreal…
Everything you have said is completely untrue so I don’t really know how to begin or even how to answer it. Did you ever stay at el patio 77?

Anyway, I will try to answer it even if nothing in your review is real or even believable...

1-We do not allow our staff to be kind with our guests ?
I really tried but I don’t even understand what you mean….How can we do that?

2- No hot water at night?
We have a solar system that obviously heats the water during the day but that doesn’t mean you do not have hot water at night. Read this article for a better understanding of how solar heaters work: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_water_heating
Besides, we remind you that we have a gas system to guarantee hot water for our guests at any time even if there is no sun during the day.

3-We do not allow our guests to use toilet paper?
I think this is the funniest comment I have ever read…Of course, we provide toilet paper in all our toilets and we assume our guests use it quite often…

4-We did not change the sheets during one week?
We usually change the bed sheets every 3 days, except when our guests ask to change them or when they clearly have to be changed before that.

5-Our neighborhood is dangerous???? Far from the city center??
The San Rafael area is not a dangerous place at all.It is a working class neighborhood with lots of families living here and more and more cultural activities. There are several museums nearby, lots of theaters and a few galleries.
I recommend you to read this New York Times article about San Rafael: http://goo.gl/tK9WvC

In 5 years, no guest has suffered any trouble in our neighborhood... Did you experience any difficult situation in the neighborhood?

San Rafael is also a really central neighborhood. You can reach the main plaza of the city “El Zócalo” in 10 min by metro or 5 min by taxi. You can even have a 20 min walk to the Fine Art Palace which is only 2 km from our house. Is that far in a 20 million people City? For your information, the Mexico City area is 2046 km2 (790 square miles)….

6-We are not friendly with gay couples?
First of all we do not ask the sexual orientation of our guests…… We do not discriminate anybody for being gay or not and we try to be kind with all our guests.
Besides, as you mentioned it, I am gay and part of the staff is gay too, so again, it is just impossible for me to understand your comment.

The only explanations I can find about this review is that it is a bad joke or that someone wants to harm us and our B&B. But I am sure the tripadvisor's readers will understand that…

El Patio 77 is clean, comfortable, spacious, and well placed for a visit to the tourist sights of Mexico City. It is a short metro ride or a leisurely walk down interesting streets to the city center. The staff were all very friendly and helpful -- they provide maps, and have a good library of guidebooks available. Our room was on the second floor, and the heavy shutters were more than adequate to keep out any street noise. The breakfast was excellent, with really good coffee. My only reservation concerns the availability of good restaurants in the neighborhood -- most were rather unattractive with modest cuisine...though they were cheap.

Hi

Thanks for your comment!!
We hope that you felt like home at El patio 77, the first eco-friendly Bed&Breakfast, your comment help us to improve and grow to serve you .

Regarding your concern about fancy restaurants I understand it perfectly, It is just that we are located in a very typicall neighborhood of Mexico city where you can experiment authentic mexican cuisine, aniway we are still surrounded by the touristic fancy places where you can get in less than 15 minutes.

We hope to see you again soon at El patio 77.

It is a cosy and stylish place to stay for a few days. The people were nice, the place was clean and I would recommend it to my friends but there were a few minor issues.
We didn't like the unreliable WiFi, the fact that it is far from many things and it was noisy (We were on the ground floor room facing the street).

Room Tip: Ground floor room (en suite) is noisy. I don't know about the other rooms.

Hello !!!
Thanks for your comment!!
We hope that you felt like home at El patio 77, the first eco-friendly Bed&Breakfast.

Regarding to the Wi.Fi connection, ours is very reliable, in fact we have two of it, from two different companies, this is with the purpose that in case one of it is failing you will always have another choice, for us is really important to have good internet connection for our guests.

In the other hand, when our guests arrive we provide them with plenty of information about the multiple and different things that they can do near to us, this includes museums, art galleries and local restaurants, the historic center area is less than 10 minutes via subway, there is also a lot of public transportation in the area, bus, subway (three blocks from the hotel) and main avenues. Mexico city is a huge city and doesn't matter where are you staying, there is always going to take you some time in order to get to another point of interest, anyway we are located almost in the center of the main places.

Thanks again for sharing your points of view, your comment will help us to improve and grow.

We hope to see you again soon at El patio 77.

You will be surprised when you enter the living room downstairs and your own room as they look fabulous and comfortable! The building was decorated with a great artistic taste! Clean, comfortable and the whole hotel is ecofriendly! Amazing place! Close to metro station. The neighborhood is quiet. If you want something more lively maybe not the best choice.

This refurbished house is so comfortable and the complimentary breakfast (with fresh squeezed juice) was always excellent. Our room was so creatively designed and featured all the comforts we could ask form. Even though I have some broadstrokes knowledge about Mexico City, the staff helped me plan a metro route to San Angel and were helpful in suggesting LGBT bars to hit later in the evening. Cab drivers don't always know the area very well, so remember to mention the parallel Ribera San Cosme to help direct them. The only suggestion I could make is for someone to do a tour of the taco, huarache, and gordita stands in the neighborhood so guests might patronize the better ones (for some reason my partner and I missed eating street food almost all together).

I made a few friends while staying here (this place attracts a wonderful clientele) and we all agree: is the most accessible, hip, vibrant, friendly B&B we've come across so far....ever.

The original building is incredible, and the location is perfectly placed slightly outside of the main tourist area. A 20 minute walk gets you to the heart of the action on Reforma. A 2 block walk gets you to the most charming neighborhood taco stand where an elderly father and his two sons dish out Spanish banter and delicious dishes to anyone and everyone who comes by (all of whom they seem to know).

6 stars.

My partner and I stayed here a week ago, and MAN, what a pleasure! The Chihuahua suite was nice, and has windows that open up into the courtyard where breakfast is served. Then, we moved to the Oaxaca suite, which was unbelievable awesome, with a nice balcony and an open airy feel to it. The breakfasts are great, and the price can't be beat. A much more memorable experience than just an overly ornate lobby with standard rooms.

Room Tip: Chihuahua suite is the only room with interior windows, according to the owner. It is thus quieter...
