“Good location, a little expensive”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

A well located hotel, I arrived in the afternoon, and walked a couple blocks to a Metro station for a quick visit to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine. Staff was kind and professional. I got an interior room with a window to the emergency stairs. Although clean, it was very small and hot. Hotel remodeling is being made, so there was a lot of dust on the stairs. Overall the hotel is OK for a one or two night stay, but personally it seemed expensive for the small room, and I would look for other options when going to Mexico city.

Started out disappointed as I'd booked this through Priceline where it was labeled as being in the "Historic Center/Centro Historico" when actually it was in more of a nondescript commercial/business area, far cry from what the label had led me to think. However, it's only about four metro stops from the National Museum of Anthropology, Chapultepec Park, etc. Nice staff, although problems initially in that I had prepaid the room and had a receipt but they couldn't find me in their system. Shower had only one shelf to put soap, shampoo, etc -- and it was slippery and slanted downward so that nothing would stay on it. Like most hotels in Mexico, not as much for your money as at a similar U.S. hotel. Only one bottle of water allotted per day, though we had a king-sized bed and two people. Lousy coffee; okay toiletries. Argentine restaurant across the street is great; Villa Casona a couple of blocks away is good for breakfast or lunch but closed for dinner. Not an attractive neighborhood, but seemed safe. No pool. Took photos to post here on Tripadvisor but security stopped me and said it was not permissible to take pictures of the hotel. Internet service did not work well in rooms; two laptops in the lobby were in high demand at some times of day, especially by kids playing video games. But if you're willing to ride the subway, it's not a bad location, unless you want a nearby restaurant that's open late. Our room was pleasantly decorated and the bed was okay; "soft" mattresses don't seem to exist in Mexican hotels, but it wasn't bad.

Dear Ispeak4u

It is very important for us to know their experience as it helps us to be better every day; so your comments will be taken into account.

With regard to your reservation actually there was a mistake on the part of the travel agency that developed the reservation as the hotel is not in the downtown area of the city; the center is to us about 30 to 40 minutes; unfortunately in these cases we can not cancel or change the reservation because as you comment and rate paid.

As for your room are completely remodeled but thank you very much for your observation and security involved.

For standard bottle of water per room daily standing if it is a bedroom with kingsize bed.

Again thank you for your comments acontar hoping to return to your visit and to have the opportunity to change their experience.

Best Regards

Definitely loved my stay at this holiday inn, unlike in other holiday inn properties the staff here was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are under renovatrion but I received an upgrade to one of their suites and it was just perfect. Since we arrived to the hotel the staff was welcoming and friendly, specially the bellman Augusto who showed us our room and gave us a few tips and recommendations of places we should go. We saw him a couple of days later and he still remembered us. Definetely a good place to stay if you are looking for an affordable and comfortable hotel.

I am always looking for places that can offer more than a simple room for resting.Even if the place is located in the middle of a big city,i like the feeling of being at home, and this place is the right one,and the spa is one of the things that makes me wish come back if i needed.

Room Tip: Ask for the new remodelated rooms?

Well, this hotel is renovated, but is not enough, the room average, the bed hard as rock i bet they didnt put new matress is old chep oldstyle 80s. The hard bed ever, forget about coffy beding this is not available here. The nu stuff: flat tv, flat tv, flat tv is like a joke, the floor is dated the walls too the building so ugly, why staying here? Away from everything. The strong in this hotel is the smiling personal but what you need in a hotel is a great room not just service.
Try: howard jhonson alameda is about 1/3 the rate and brand new, the best bed and perfect spot in downtown.
I luv mexico city, please never come this property is a good advice.

Stayed at this hotel on a business trip. I transferred to this hotel from the Camino Real hoping for a better experience. This was a huge mistake. The rooms are old and gross and not clean. No bed-bugs, but it's filthy. The rooms are small and not well maintained. My first room was a smelly smoking room. The next room had a broken desk chair and the tv didn't work. Both were addressed promptly. The room faced the inside if the hotel so no natural light. The bathroom was awful. The walls were dirty and the shower is a trickle that is either scalding hot or ice cold. The air-conditioning worked but was very noisy. There were two bottles of water in the room in arrival, and were replaced each day except for my last two days. No idea why. The halls are very noisy and you can hear everything that happens in the rooms next door. The walls in the hallway are cracked, an all I could think was that if there was an earthquake the whole place would crumble into dust.

The area has nothing to offer, but I did make a 15 minute trek to Starbucks without feeling that I would have a problem.

The restaurant is not bad at all, and is a good value with good service. I was puzzled why the buffet was a different price each time I went. But it was still pretty cheap and the food was good and plentiful.

The lobby is adorned with signs announcing a renovation, which is badly needed, but probably would not convince me to stay again.

Overall, I would avoid. The Camino Real was a palace compared to this place. Holiday Inn should be embarrassed to have its name associated with such a poor hotel.
