“Disappointing”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

I seek out Indian restaurants in foreign cities not so much because I want to eat food from my native country, but to check out whether they are representing Indian cuisine authentically. Dawat was a big disappointment in this respect. They cater to the commonly held perception of the "spicy" Indian food. Indian food with its blend of exotic spices can be subtle and delicious. However, all the dishes here used a large quantity of spice, killing the taste. The kebabs (I ordered two dishes) were not dry as they are supposed to be, but saucy and oily and very sour. The gravy of entrees were also thick with spices. The service is functional and minimal. The servers are not trained to make you feel welcome, even when the restaurant is not busy. It's a pleasure to find an Indian restaurant in a far off place like Mexico, but next time I will try to find some other Indian restaurant when I am in Mexico city.

“Not my gusto”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

Being a big fan of Indian food, I can't call it authentic indian food what they serve in Dawat.
It's overpriced, service is slow and really really bad.
They bring you chicken when you asked for seafood and wouldn't do anything about it. What the???
Also, they charge you more money "by mistakes" and it takes ages for them to fix it.

I am not going back again, I prefer Taj Mahal in Condesa or the Elephant House in Newton in Polanco.

“Good indian meal”
Reviewed 9 May 2013

We had a three course meal, starters and sauces were fresh and tasted great, even though they didnt have mango chutney. main was again great and we had Kulfi (indian pistachio ice cream) to finish which was absolutely delightful. Staff were friendly and the restaurant was very quiet for a saturday night. All in all very nice meal just a little pricey. Tip is obligatory 10% which i think is a little rude.

“Delicious Indian Cuisine”
Reviewed 12 March 2013

It's quite the adventure trying new restaurants in different cities and Dawat is definitely theee best restaurant here for Indian cuisine. The place is very small and the ambiance is peaceful. There is a glass window to watch the actual Indian chefs make fresh authentic indian dishes. Tandoori dishes are fresh and full of flavor! The naan and parathas are the real deal. The curries are delectable and the Okra dish was amazing! Also, at the table they provide chili green chutney and tamarind (ambli) sauce... condiments that can pleasantly surprise all tastebuds! Servers were very friendly and we would definitely return when in Mexico City :)

“Good Indian Food in DF”
Reviewed 29 January 2013

I have been to Dawat twice and have enjoyed it both times. I like Indian food a lot, and I think the food quality is good, but portion sizes are a little small. Last night we had the chicken tikka masala (one of my favorites) and a spicy lamb dish, along with the lentils (which I love). When combined with the lemon rice and some naan it was a very good dinner. The restaurant is very small and a bit out of the way for the Polanco area. The service was friendly and very good (but we were the only patrons for a while.
