I seek out Indian restaurants in foreign cities not so much because I want to eat food from my native country, but to check out whether they are representing Indian cuisine authentically. Dawat was a big disappointment in this respect. They cater to the commonly held perception of the "spicy" Indian food. Indian food with its blend of exotic spices can be subtle and delicious. However, all the dishes here used a large quantity of spice, killing the taste. The kebabs (I ordered two dishes) were not dry as they are supposed to be, but saucy and oily and very sour. The gravy of entrees were also thick with spices. The service is functional and minimal. The servers are not trained to make you feel welcome, even when the restaurant is not busy. It's a pleasure to find an Indian restaurant in a far off place like Mexico, but next time I will try to find some other Indian restaurant when I am in Mexico city.
