“Excellent location, but dont expect a hand towel”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2013

The location is excellent. Just in front of Plaza Luis Cabrera, one of the nicests spots of Colonia Roma. Unfortunately, not only the room was not spotless, they dont assign a hand towel per room even if you ask for it. Crazy? No, it is cheap. Also spare some extra money to pay super expensive parking lots, as the hotel does not have parking space.

Clean, Simple but functional, had plates and cups, cutlery, refrigerator. Surrounded by one of the cities most beautiful areas, Colonia Roma, tourist friendly, starbucks in front. Good. They have no parking and that is kind of problematic, because the surrounding places are bar and restaurants and they are packed with people at night so there is no parking spaces.

I had stayed in the Zona Rosa and Condesa neighborhoods of the D.F. on previous trips. They were OK but...The Roma neighborhood sounded interesting. Something about the location of this small hotel beckoned. I am glad I succumbed.

Casa de la Condesa is spotless. The staff friendly, helpful and eager to please. I stayed in a 3rd floor room with a view over the Plaza Luis Cabrera and its large fountain. Breakfast was cooked to order daily in a small dining room just for the hotel's guests.

No matter in which direction I walked upon leaving the hotel there were restaurants. Wonderful restaurants. Affordable menus featuring the delectable produce of Mexico's farms. Most places offered al fresco dining which was delightful in mid-fall.

The only negative? A very cramped bathroom. My room had a kitchenette which could have given up 50% of its space to the bathroom. I tolerated the bathroom's lack of space and dated layout because the location was so good.

La Roma? Think of the 6th arrondissement in Paris (St. Germain) and you get the idea. Very agreeable and safe. Sidewalk cafes and eateries filled with locals. Can one ask for more?

Room Tip: Any room facing the Plaza.

Over all... a charming place. I am so glad I did not pay attention to the negative reviews. Either those people are always looking for something to nit pic or they expect perfection in all situations. Attendants were very helpful, rooms were very clean and I had an awesome view of the plaza out front. Always felt safe to walk around at any hour of the day or night. Place is very well centralize and easy to get around. Many places close to hotel to enjoy coffee, breakfast, candle lit dinners or an awesome alcoholic drink if you so desire. I would highly recommend this location.

We booked online, because the pics looked good. But that was a big mistake! The room had no window and was all dark and very small (<10sqm). Only the bathroom had a small window but that was not enough. Unlike the typical mexican, the staff was unfriendly and offensive. We can not recommend this hotel.

The hotel was said to be newly restored. That is true ... they tried their best and it was okay ( not high class, but equipped with new stuff and in a nice way ). BUT the work on the restaurant was still going on .. it was so noisy that during the day it was better not to stay there. They are building a new restaurant in the courtyard of the hotel ... if this is a good idea the future has to show, maybe it will be very noisy in the night. Our room was dark, but very spacious. It had a small kitchen and that was great. The hotel staff was friendly. I think the hotel might become better when all the work is finished. But the situation of the rooms ( many are quite dark ) might not change; so my advice is to ask for details before you book a room. I gave a low rating because the price is too high for what you get. We had shortly before another hotel in Mexico City ( center ) for less then half the price. Roma is a more costly district in Mexico City because it is "in" , but still the price was too high.
But let us give the hotel a chance and see how it developes in future.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room in the upper floors. Ask for a bright room. Rooms towards the road might be...

The chemical smell of air freshener in our room was overwhelming. The lighting in the bedroom was so poor that it was impossible to do anything other than unpack bags by the light of 40 watt wall sconces. The beds were so hard, it was like sleeping on a concrete floor. Desk personnel in the evening were both efficient and helpful but generally speaking, the place was a dump.
