This is one of the worse hotels I have experienced in my life and I travel a lot...the sad thing is that every employee with who I interacted seemed to have a good intention.
Here is a summary of the very dissapoting experience:
- Got to the hotel and discovered that the taxi service (from aiport to hotel) couldn't be charged to the room. They expected I was going to have $800 pesos to pay directly to the driver....crazy! I ordered the pick up service at the time of my reservation was done.
- Get to the room to find out the light balls in the bathroom were not working.
- Tried to dry my hair in a mornign rushing for a meeting...to find out the hairdryer didn't work.
- Order breakfast on the first morning..got a double order.
- Order breakfast on the second morning....got the order wrong.
- Order breakfast on the third day....again the wrong order. At this point I'm wandering why I'm still ordering room service.
- Tried to use the espresso machine in the room...not cups to make the coffe....
NOTHING works!!! and on top of that they charge you for internet services.

The general manager contacted me to understand a little more the situation...say she would like to do something to recover me as a customer and in the same instant her secretary comes to the room where we are talking to charge me for 10 pages copy I have ordered (USD12)...Nothing, but totally contradictory. The general manager didn't even realize it!!!
I paid my USD 12...and just concluded that there is a BIG gap between the words from the employees in this hotel and their actions.

NEVER again!

My big mistake was booking three nights at this hotel. And my bigger mistake was paying 250 pesos for their lousy buffet breakfast. I've stayed at over 10 hotels in Mexico City and value wise this hotel is the least worth it. Instead I recommend the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico (Zocolo) or, if you can afford it, the Four Seasons or St. Regis which both have reasonable weekend rates. If you pay over $100 for the Fiesta Americana you have been ripped off.

Polanco is like the Manhattan of Mexico City, the area is very old, big buildings all over the place, this is an old building but well renovated, rooms are comfortable but very small, I have stayed at other Grand hotels from the FA hotels and hotels are huge and rooms are all suites, but well It was Polanco. Overview, Comfortable, luxurios, good breakfast, and well located.

Stayed just for one night with the family, room with two "matrimonial" sized beds. Very comfortable beds and bedding, rooms not large at all but well appointed. Marble bathroom with good shower over a small bath, no good for a six footer like myself but the kids and wife were happy with a splash around in there. Flat screen TV, DVD player, filter and expresso coffee machines in room. Tasteful original prints in room, a few nice touches like these did make the difference. Room had a great floor to ceiling window with 17th floor view across the city, kids were amazed by that. Usual "charge and charge handsome policy" for accessories that one might expect free in other hotels (coffee, bottled water, internet access) but that's Grupo Posadas for you, they are well known for it and we are used to it.

Away from the room the lobby is fine, check-in staff and bellboys all perfectly courteous, joking with the kids etc. Parking is 100 pesos a day, quite expensive compared to the Fiesta Americana on Reforma where they charge a much more reasonable 25 pesos. Breakfast buffet was extensive but very expensive (we were comped one which was why we partook, otherwise I doubt we'd have indulged). Full buffet for two adults and two infants comes to 70 USD, cold buffet to 50 USD.

There is a gym and spa here, but we didn't have time to check them out, and we also didn't explore around the hotel, so can't comment on access to the park or nearby museums, but Reforma Avenue is very close by.

We usually stay at the Fiesta Americana on Reforma but we found a weekend deal that made it cheaper to stay here at the supposedly higher category hotel. And you can just about see the difference in quality, but it's not much, and you should definitely compare prices between the two if you are set on staying in a Grupo Posadas hotel in this general area.

Room Tip: Look for weekend rates in the 90-100 USD range

I stayed two nights only, and I booked it despite the reviews I've read before.

My overall experience was great, the only drawback for me is that you have to pay for the Internet access. But, to my luck I got a room where I could get a free signal from a nearby AP, it was weak but good enough for my needs.

As they say on other reviews, the drinking water is expensive and I've read that they don't allow you to introduce your own bottles UNLESS they are already open, but I was not able to check that for myself.

A couple of short blocks away you have two convenience stores that are open 24hrs, so you can easily walk there. I did so (alone) very late at night, around 1am and the zone its pretty safe, there´s a small nightclub nearby (not noisy at all) and there were pedestrian cops on the sidewalk, so I felt pretty safe. Please note that I didn't even tried to smuggle any food or drink into the hotel, so I don't have any advise on that.

There had three one liter (about 1qt) water bottles but they were pricey the cheapest one was about $3 USD and that same bottle outside costs you less than $0.99 USD. They also have a very expensive bottle that goes for $8 USD a piece.

After midnight the only food available from the hotel is what they call "Deli", mostly sandwiches and salads, i.e. nothing that requires cooking and the prices were reasonable, maybe a bit pricey too, but nothing unexpected from an hotel.

I've read on some reviews that they say the lobby was too small, and it is indeed. But why would I need a big lobby? Please keep in mind that this is a small hotel but with very large rooms, this is the best you can get on a budget. There other hotels nearby, that cost about $20 USD less per night and you get a tiny room and feel like on those hotel chains that have a big six on their logo, you know which ones ;) So I believe that those extra twenty are worth it for what you get.

The room was very spacious and very well furnished *see my pics", they provide slippers (I never use them, since I carry my own) and the bathroom was very nice. There's a small electronic safe in the room where you can fit a laptop and its accessories.

But the best was the view, I specifically asked for a room with a view to the Chapultepec castle and It was worth it every extra dime *about $5 USD extra".

The bell boy and desk clerk where very courteous and helpful. They even printed my boarding pass without charge. This was unexpected since they have a business center and I was expecting to get charged for a printout.

The hotel cab is very safe but its a bit expensive. I used it anyways because I was alone and I wouldn't want to take any risks.

Overall I had a great experience in this hotel. Keep in mind that I was on a business trip and I've just spent about 16 hours total in the hotel, most of them sleeping, but needless to say, the next time I go to Mexico city on a business one or two day trip, this will be the place where I'll stay.

Room Tip: 10th floor with a view to the castle

Everything in this hotel was very expensive. From a simple bottle of water or small bag of peanut (over 200% profit on that one!!) Other hotels in the area do offer free Wi-Fi. Yes, there was a nice view of the castle and the park, but there is also a very very ugly sight of a construction site and an empty parking lot nearby. Definately sneak in some bottles of water.

Helpful concierge, limited English speaking people within the staff, not much to this hotel except one tall building where they have crammed everything. Very small lobby area, restaurant also was an odd shape, breakfast spread was decent but not much for a vegetarian. Rooms are decent, the gym is small but located on the higher floor with a great view of the city which made it fun. Fortunately the net connection worked well which was critical.
