We had 10 days booked at this hotel. Our first 4 days were Fantastic! We then went on a 4-day road trip leaving most of our luggage and souvenirs in the room. We informed the Hotel of our time away. When we returned for a "relaxing" final 2 days, we discovered that our room had been used in our absence. A full bucket of unmelted ice was the first clue, as was the radio and TV on. We aren't sure if our belongings were touched, so on that I won't comment.

I will say that we were Very happy with the Hotel until we returned from our road trip. A four-star Hotel should NOT use a pre-booked, pre-paid room for ANY reason.

The staff and manager tried to deal with this as best they could, but it should Never have happened. This Hotel has many admirable qualities but, for our stay, the bad outweighed the good.

The room on the 15th floor overlooking Chapultepec Park was great for our family of 4...spacious, clean, wireless internet, great park view, decent workout room, helpful staff in the business center, etc. A bit of a walk to eat, but we like that. The concierge service was exceptional. Advice on restaurants, tours, etc. Kudos to Alberto who, after I had a nightmare of an experience with ADVANTAGE rent-a-car at the Mex City airport, was able to email me a receipt that I needed to verify an expense within about 15 minutes of my request. EXCEPTIONAL service!

The good news: the location of the Fiesta American Grand Chapultepec is perfect, close to the restaurants of Polanco and Condesa. My room was extremely comfortable. Pay a little extra for an upgrade to a larger room with a view overlooking Chapultepec Park and you won't feel as if you are overnighting in a city of 23 million souls. I didn't eat at the hotel so can't report on the food. Now the bad news: I prepaid my four-night stay but got caught by the recent American Airlines massive flight cancellations. I arrived a day late but still had to pay for the night I missed, even though I called the hotel a day in advance. Hardly the way to make me into a frequent client. Also, beware: the hotel charges a totally outrageous $25 a day for Internet access! Because this seems to be primarily a business hotel, perhaps management feels travelers will simply put it on their expense accounts and not complain. My otherwise very enjoyable stay was made bittersweet by these two issues.

First, the positives. A clean and spacious room with a stunning view of Chapultepec castle. Very friendly staff. Convenient to Chapultepec Park and its various attractions. A decent fitness center, with a 19th floor view, no less.

But there are definite negatives. The location is not convenient to anything except the park. It's an uncomfortably long and complicated walk to decent restaurants or cafes, and the closest metro stop (Chapultepec) is a circuitous ten minute hike.

For me, though, the biggest negatives were the outrageous prices for everything beyond the room itself. Internet access? That will be $25 per day. I'm not kidding - $25 dollars per day! Want to use the locker room after you work out in the fitness center? That will be another $12.50. A 200 ml bottle of water from the mini-bar? That will set you back over four dollars. For like three good size sips of water. (And while the maid is supposed to leave a carafe of agua purificada in the room, mine never did. Good thing there's a 7-11 two blocks away.)

They are clearly aiming for the corporate expense account here (Torre Major is close by). But I would rather have the expenses built into the room rate right up front rather than feeling nickeled and dimed to death. It's enough to keep me from coming back.
