Reviewed 13 March 2014

The cleanliness of the hotel is very unsatisfactory, there was hair on the bathroom floor and even a condom in the sink (since the hotel works in a zone of prostitution, including you can hear pleasure moans from the other rooms).
In addition to the pleasure moans, another thing that disturbs the sleep of the guests is the loud outside noise (there's an overpass near the hotel).
But worst of all was the fact that my netbook have been stolen inside the hotel and its administrators have not taken their responsibility for case.
I went to Cuernavaca and had left my luggage in the care of the hotel, when I came back, I realized that my netbook had been stolen. Immediately I have reported the fact to the hotel managers, however they merely said that what happened was an "accident" and they have no way to controll the entrance of guests into the luggage storage.
That excuse is an absurd, a hotel that wants to be respected can not allow guests entry alone into the luggage deposit freely. In this case, the person has stolen my netbook not only entry alone as he/she had enough time to open the my bags.
In a respectful hotel I can not imagine a crazy situation like that: guests entering alone into the luggage store and having enough time to act quietly, checking bags which belong to other guests and stealing what they wish. Totally insane!!!
Again I insist: Hotel managers merely said me that it was an "accident", and that another guest stole my netbook and that any camera of the hotel was able to capture who was responsible.
As compensation for the injury that I suffered (and at the same time a recognition by the guilt and failure of the hotel in this case), one of the managers of the hotel offered me 300 pesos (25 US dollars) of discount on payment of the room, which was ridiculous in comparison to the great prejudice, since my netbook had all my photos and important study and work files.
This hotel, for me, has lost all its credibility and I will never come back to host there again.

Hola.

Gracias.

Atte. Dirección Hotel La Selva.

My boyfriend and I arrived here for 2 nights and from the word go the owner couldn't have been more helpful. We had all you could ask for; a clean room, wifi, food available all day/night for a very low price. The hotel is also very close to the
metro, the best way to travel around the city. To top things off, on our last day we were due to check out at 12 but our bus wasn't until 2130.... Bit of a problem you would think. But not here as Javier allowed us to keep our room until then for no extra charge! He also booked our buses etc and helped us plan our next destination as he recommended we didn't go where we were planning. Overall excellent for the price and the service was second to none!

Hotel La Selva has such a high note both in Booking and on Tripadvisor that we decided to give it a try. We left after two nights instead of five that we'd planned originally.

There are some good things about the hotel for sure:
-incredibly cheap. The basic rooms are just 160 pesos and for this price are quite ok. The deluxe are newly furbished and for just 250 pesos it's not a bad deal. Unfortunately the only deluxe room available was right beside a big busy road, so we decided to stay in the basic downstairs hoping for less noise. This is the cheapest that we slept on our entire 7 week trip around Central America
- very well located. It is close to Chabacana metro station, the entrances to lines 2 and 9 are super close and it s just three stops to zocalo. And there's a huge supermarket nearby

But that's it. Price and location are the only good things. As far as the bad ones go:
-noisy. As I mentioned before, it is right by the main road. But if you stay away from the road and close to the reception there is a constant noise from the TV and staff chatting from 7 am until late. Also planes fly right above the hotel adding even more noise. The earplugs won't save you
-wifi was quite poor
-cleanliness. In the basic room the cleanliness was only so so. The towels and sheets were super clean, but the bathroom was full of hair, we found cigarette butts in both ashtray and garbage bin.
I guess for the price the hotel offers we would have overcome these pros easily if it weren't for the fact that this is a by-the-hour hotel. We have no problem with the love hotel concept but IMO the hotel needs to decide whether it's going to be a serious hotel for tourists or whether it's going to catter to couples looking for intimacy. Suddenly all the hair in the shower becomes way more disgusting and the stains we found on the blanket could have been yoghurt but given the circumstances of the hotel it most likely was something else. It also seriously affects the security of the place - while the owner meticulously took photocopies of both our passports, from the passing couples he only asked for a name, any name. If something happened, the hotel has no records of who comes in, and there really are many, many couples that pass through at any time of the day. We saw only maybe three other 'normal' tourists while we stayed there.

If you don't mind what the hotel is, if you don't mind wondering where the hair or the stains came from, it is a great option for budget travelers. For this price you'll never find anything better in DF, that's for sure. But you get what you pay for.

Start with the bad:
1. The bed is terribly solid and uncomfortable - nothing a little tequila couldn't fix.
2. The room is small and dirty. As one person wrote, there's black stuff stuck to the floor that turned spots of my towel brown when laid on the floor.
3. The light is dim, the door is broken and the bathroom is all one piece (there's nothing to separate the toilette from the sink, or the sink from the shower).
4. It's pretty noisy and I do smell cigarette smoke all around (there was an ashtray in my room).

The good:
1. It's embarrassingly cheap. While it's not the best place to stay, it's definitely somewhere I don't MIND staying and the room is absolutely worth the price.
2. It's literally steps from the nearest metro station.
3. The neighborhood actually isn't that bad. I was not afraid to go out at night.
4. The shower gets very hot! After seeing how dirty the floor was, I was surprised to find just how comfortable the shower was.

5. This hotel would get fewer stars if it weren't for the amazing staff. I think the owner is the only one who speaks English, but everyone is patient, kind and the staff is all around pleasant to be around.

Room Tip: I have room 204 and it has sticky brown stuff on the floor. I would not recommend this one in partic...

My husband and I really hated our first night here. We had room C and it stank of cigarette smoke and there were no windows open to the outside. Also, the faucet in the bathroom sink had one of those public bathroom nozzles on it so you had to hold the faucet open with one hand while trying to wash your face with the other hand. Luckily, we got a leak in our roof on the second night and they offered to change our room. The second room that we stayed in was in the added on building and it was much nicer. There was no carpet and it had a window to the outside, so it didn't smell like smoke at all. The sink was a regular sink and the internet worked in this room too. If I had to rate this hotel on my first night I would have given it a Terrible rating, but because we were moved and our experience changed drastically, I think it ended up being good value for money. Definitely try to stay in the new added on portion of the hotel rather than the older part and keep in mind that even the people who run the hotel smoke inside. The last complaint is that we asked for them to schedule a taxi to come pick us up in the morning because we had to be at the airport early. The English speaking manager said that he would call and that the taxi would be waiting for us in the morning, but the taxi never came and the only person on duty that early in the morning, didn't speak any English at all. But luckily there is an area where lots of taxis hang out just around the corner on the way to the subway station. We were able to pick one up there and he even used the meter! Also, the breakfast here is pretty good, but people might be smoking around you while you're trying to eat.

Room Tip: Don't get a room with a letter (A,B,C) try and get one in the newer part of the building.

The price of the rooms is embarassingly cheap ! It is clean and the owner , Javier Solis is very helpful in every way . He speaks English gives out map and instruction on how to use the metro which is just a block away . We had breakfast included and it includes scrambled eggs with ham or 2 pcs of sunnyside up and 2 pcs of toasted bread , a cup of fresh mixed fruits and choice of coffee ( capucchino , black , americano ) or chocolate.
Will we stay here again ? Sure but those who are picky there is a school nearby and uses a loud speaker early in the morning . For us it is our wake up call each day !
About the staff , although they can not speak english they tried to help cheerfully inspite of difficulty in communication.

Room Tip: For those who are able to climb the stairs since there is no lift the rooms on the second floor are...

It was an adventure to sleep there, indeed:) The hotel staff is very nice. The dirt in our room was unacceptable; old furniture (usually I don't mind but...it seems taken from trash), scary carpet with black bits stuck to it...it seemed as if only thing that was cleaned was bed area (bed linen was also clean). Located close to Chabacano metro station - is definitely an advantage - though area isn't pleasant after dark. I think name of the hotel refers to jungle of dirt;)
