“Clean and cool hostel”
Reviewed 19 January 2013

As far as hostels go this has to be one of the best. A friend and I stayed in a private room which was spacious and had a great shower (important if you're a girl :-))
I had trouble trying to contact my bank back in Australia and one of the staff let me use his Skype account to make the call... Completely lovely and not expected.
It's on the edge of Condesa so not quite in the hub but everything is a short walk or shorter taxi. The metro station is also only 10min walk away.

Got recommended this hostel from a girl staying here, I loved it straight away. It's just opened so it's fresh and totally different from other hostels I've stayed in. Great design threw out the interior, good stuff who make sure you'll have a great staying, they also know a lot of places to go and organize trips. Downstairs they have a excellent little restaurant run by Carlos, filled with cheap but tasty dishes fit for anyone traveling. Yeah, not much more to say, stay here if you're coming to Mexico City!

I stayed in a room facing the street so it got a little noisy, just ask for another room if that's a problem for you. They got plenty.

It's really the people at this place that make it fantastic. I really loved Enrique and Carlos, who are absolutely charming and lots of fun. They make it feel like a home from home and that's a really nice feeling when you're in one of the wildest, craziest cities in the world!
The location is great - a 10 min walk from Chapultapec, and on the cusp of one of the two nicest neighbourhoods in Mexico City: La Condesa (the other is La Roma Norte). Wander around the neighbourhood for bars, cafes and restaurants galore.
The common area is very social; you meet other travellers over breakfast and during the day. The rooms have fantastic giant bunk beds so you can sit up without hitting your head, and they are bright and airy, which is unusual.
The hostel is located on a busy main road so bring your ear plugs. Breakfast, while social, is scant so bring your own breakfast food or have a tea first with other travellers and then go out to eat. The kitchen is not set up for cooking, but you can make scrambled eggs in the microwave. You won't really be able to cook your own dinners, but they have an excellent cafe, as well as an Argentine Parilla right next door. When I stayed there was no hot water, so I had cold showers (which were easier after a Mexcal or two!)
I met some excellent people here and would definitely stay here again.

Great location in La Condesa, 5 min walk to the nearest subway station (Chapultepec) and minutes from very cool restaurants and bars. Located on a main road and there was construction going on next door but the noise was only minor inconvenience on weekends after a big night. Found the area to be very safe area to walk around day or night. Stayed in a private room which is highly recommended, affordable, own bathroom, big bed and flatscreen tv. The people that worked there were great and able to help with any questions. The food in the small resto attached to the hostel was fantastic and really well-priced. Can get cold at nights so ask for extra blanket as no heating/air-con. Loved the decor, well thought out and very cool.

There aren't many budget options in Condesa so we're lucky to have this hostel.

ROOM:
We had a double room with a private bathroom for 4 nights around Christmas time. You have to bring your own towels. The room is small and basic, but very clean. It has a bed, a sink, and a chair. The bathroom isn't much bigger than a closet with just a toilet and a shower, but it works and the shower's temperature and water pressure are excellent. It would be very helpful if there was a few hooks and shelves on the walls. As it is, it is difficult hang towels or put down anything but on the floor.

NOISE:
The hostel can get noisy because of the acoustics of the building. Any conversation or other sound in the lobby/lounge area can be heard all the way up in every room. It's a good idea to sleep with ear plugs in case of unexpected noise or the entrance doorbell ringing, but people are usually quiet.

SERVICE:
There was a different receptionist everyday. They were all very friendly and all but one spoke fluent English. The free breakfast is simple with self-serve cereals and toast. There are many cafes in the neighbourhood if you want to have breakfast elsewhere. Dinners are also provided by the hostel for only 50 pesos per person (must be reserved in advance). However, Condesa has so many nice places to eat that we ate all our meals outside and never had a chance to try the hostel's food.

LOCATION:
We loved the beautiful neighbourhood of Condesa. Just wandering around here was a real treat and it's safe to walk at night. The hostel is within close walking distance to the metro.

Overall, we'd be happy to go back to Condesa and stay at this hostel again.

Where to start with the Barefoot Condesa? This is a fantastic hostel, with a funky style and cool staff to match. We loved many things about this place, including the open space, the roof terrace and the staff who were excellent (and treated us not like customers, but friends). This is a new hostel and as such they are very open to suggestions and came across very keen to make us feel at home, which we did. The breakfast is good, the location is great and the vibe is just excellent.

Above all this, we received excellent food from Carlos in the restaurant downstairs and just had a generally excellent hostel, which is located in the uber cool and funky Condesa area.

When we first arrived in Mexico City, we had booked into another hostel (I won't mention the name...) and after a long haul from Australia were all quite tired. We arrived smelly, damp toilets and a room without a window! So you can imagine that when we arrived at the Stayinn Barefoot Condesa we were really pleased.

With a Mezcaleria to open soon and such legendary guys running the hostel, we'd be very excited to come back and see how the hostel goes. I would recommend this place to anyone.

The brand new hostel, Stayinn Barefoot is lovely and with a cool design, as well located in one of the best areas in D.F. : La Condesa.
Both colonia condesa and colonia roma have fascinated me. Colored houses, a bohemian hint and lovely bars and shops.
The experience at this hostel was amazing. I had never been in a hostel in my life, and I decided to experience it during this trip since I would travel alone and it would be a great way to meet new people and specially backpackers like me.
What I liked most of Barefoot was the colorful environment, the young and energetic personnel, always ready to help and giving precious local suggestion on what to do and to resolve the most bizarre questions.
The style is minimal, the design is cool and it is not how you would imagine a place where you can sleep for about 15 dollars in a dorm, with decadent bathrooms and drunk teenagers. At Stayinn Barefoot there are smiley and nice cleaning ladies instead, working on all floors during all day long,so that dorms, bathrooms and the kitchen with the help of educated and respectful travelers are immaculate.
There are also private bedrooms for those who might be skeptical towards sharing, with private bathrooms and tv.
The common area is decorated with 60´s and 70´s pieces, with a vintage LP player where you can listen to many of the vinyls laying on the shelves. There was one from Lana del Rey and Pink Floyd too.
From the staff I first met two lovely Mexicans : Enrique and Diego, just “the guys next door”, with trusty and warm smiles. I also met Delphine, a lovely girl from channel island, UK. She is realizing her dream of living in Mexico City and working at the hostel is helping her to make it.
I decided to stay some more days in D.F. also because I was feeling so much at home there and after have changed more than 10 beds and cities, I really needed a break and stop. And that place was lovely and gave me great energy to keep on with my trip.
At the Stayinn Barefoot you can book their great and original tours and trips outdoor. These are not escapades for tourists, but for real travelers, with the possibility to get into the authentic mexican culture. They will of course take you to popular places, but always surprising with activities that will take you straight to the deep of the place.
I stayed there in early november during the day of the dead period and it was decorated with typical adornment. At the moment it is decorated with a lovely christmas tree with multicoloured figures of the holy creche.
As part of the great hostel concept, it has recently opened a cozy little bistrot where also people not accomodated can eat.
Carlos, an anti mexican prototipe – 1.92 tall guy who you would bet that comes from Bergen or Goteborg, who would cook exquisite food inspired from the different countries he has lived in as a chef.
Furthermore, just beside the bistrot inside the hostel they are opening a ” mezcaleria”, or canteen, and the roof terrace is going to be soon a hangout place with a cool bar, all opened to the public.
I find this place unique and a must see place where to stay when in Mexico City.
