It is no wonder that they have four locations. The restaurant is also busy because the food and service are excellent. It is an upscale restaurant with tablecloths at very reasonable prices. I ate at two different locations during my stay. Fantastic!

This is only a block off the Zocalo - had breakfast here three times - great full Mexican breakfast as well as fruit plate option. Great service too.

We had a great lunch here and according to my colleagues, who were all Mexico City locals, this place serves some pretty authentic traditional Mexican food. They had me try all sorts of different things (some of them I rather not put in writing on here) and it was a great tasting experience. Living in Los Angeles, to me it is just fascinating how different 'true' Mexican food is from the LA version... Different in a good way, that is.

Great service, excellent mole poblano (and just about everything else) and a nice atmosphere. Worth every penny, and any wait you will encounter to get in. This is my third time in Mexico, but El Cardenal was one of my best meals for sure!

El Cardenal is located in 215 Paseo de la Palmas Avenue at the corner of Monte Camerun street, Lomas de Chapultepec.
When you arrived by car, the valet parking is waiting for you, is better if you do your reservation before (you can do it, via telephone) because sometimes it is busy, and you have to wait, but do not worry they offer a nice coffee while you re waiting for your table.
The decor is nice, big crystal-windows and nice natural light.
The menu is mexican food, the traditional breakfast is the best: you must to ask for Chocolate "Doña Oliva" and the freshly baked bread made by the cook. And try the thick nata (film) made from fresh pasteurized milk. I can also recommend:
Escamoles omelette (ant eggs, a prehispanic delicacy)
Aporreado with eggs (dry beef with eggs)
Hidalguense gorditas (stuffed corn paddies)
The staff is friendly and the price is good too.
Enjoy¡¡¡
