“Wow - this place is magic”
Reviewed 15 April 2009

The Red Tree House exceeded our expectations even after reading all the rave reviews on here. It was magic. Although I had been to Mexico City a couple of times before, my partner had not - so I wanted it to be special for him and it sure was. We were in Mexico City for 5 days across New Years Eve and the RTH turned it on for us with a fab spread of Mexican food and hospitality for all guests to share the evening. The location of this place is great and feels very safe. We were able to walk most places and catch the train for a few stops to others. Great places to eat within walking distance and lots of good advice from the host. And the dog is gorgeous. This is a must for every visit to Mexico!

We stayed with Craig and Jorge at RTH in March, 2009. It is a lovely home, with a wonderfully social vibe, great staff, terrific meals, warm hospitality, in a neighborhood that is safe and offers many options for dining, sightseeing, and things to do - all in easy walking distance. We stayed in the penthouse which was very nice and has a huge, nice, private deck. While we were there, part of the B&B was under construction. When I commented to Craig that it started a bit too early for our liking, he immediately said that he would make sure that they did not start the next day - or any of the days of our stay - until he saw us at breakfast. And he kept his word. We loved the RTH - Highly recommended!!!

Can't add much to the already great reviews: this is a lovely place in a very comfortable neighbourhood in Mexico City; service here is fantastic; the breakfast totally surpassed expectations for a "continental breakfast"; the rooms are beautiful, clean, and quiet. The only caveat I can think of is that the owners are currently renovating, and workers started at about 8am when we were here, which was OK for us because we were already awake, but maybe not so great if you like to sleep in. When the renos are done though, the place will only get more fantastic!

We booked the REd Tree having read the reviews here and were glad we did. Arriving at 8:30pm we were immediately greetings by a glass of wine and joining the other guests in the garden for a drink. It was the birthday for noe lady and a cake, plus Mexican "Happy Birthday" was provided by our hosts. It was instant home with lots of lovely art about. During the stay we also sat with Craig and other guests in the lounge, with fire and wine, which was lovely. Jorge's breakfast specials are a great way to start the day. My only issue is with the room - the Jakaranda - which has two drawbacks. The first is privacy - you're directly facing the patio door and therefore always have people right outside your window. That meant keeping curtains drawn, a higher floor would be better. There's also a toilet for everyone to use right by the door/window which also reduces privacy. A bit of foiliage in front of the window area would help. remove this. The Condesa area that the Red Tree sits in is very nice, with many restaurants nearby (C25 is directly across the road and excellent), with Bistro 51 along the road for a quiet drink too. The Amsterdam Road is littered with good places. We were only there two nights, not enough to fully enjoy the area, so I guess we'll just have to go back!

My partner and I just spent three wonderful nights at The Red Tree House in the Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City. I originally found the inn doing a TripAdivisor search. It lives up to its reputation. Our hosts, Craig and Jorge, were amazingly warm and generous. Craig is very gregarious and Jorge is lovely. One of our favorite parts of the day was wine in the evening in the living room with Craig and the other guests. It was chilly, so a fire was lit in the fireplace and we all had a wonderful time talking about our day in Mexico City. It was a great way to wind down and take a break before heading out to dinner.

Our room, the Oaxaca Suite, was beautiful. A comfortable sitting area, wet bar, bedroom, and spectacular bathroom made up the suite, as well as a balcony overlooking the lush courtyard. It was a sunny and cheerful space, and we loved being there. Our host's beautiful dog, Abril, would also come to vist and was a welcome guest
.
Breakfast was also a treat and included coffee, juices, baked goods, as well as a daily "special", always some sort of hot delicious concoction. The neighborhood is full of great places to eat and we especially enjoyed C25 right across the street as well as the roof top lounge at the near by Condesa DF hotel.
I cannot say enough about The Red Tree House, our hosts, and their amazing staff. We will be back!

My husband and I just returned from a 4 nite stay at The Red Tree House and although it does not need any more accolades, I want to share our experience which validates all the other excellent reviews. The hotel is lovely, in a great , safe location with amenities you would find in a 5 star hotel but here you are paying 2 star prices! Jorge and Craig are wonderful hosts. It was our friends 40th anniversary and they insisted we use the dining room table for our party and took out silverware and their best dishes for the celebration not allowing use to use plastic forks and take out cartons...several guests joined in and it was great fun. They went the extra mile on everything...we asked about buying stamps for 2 postcards and they just mailed them for us at no charge. Their recommendations for drivers, guides and restaurants were right on and given freely...we never felt we were asking too much from them. I'm happy to say they are adding 8 more rooms so when we return we will be able to stay again at The Red Tree House.

Staying at the Red Tree House is like staying at the home of your favorite friends. Craig and Jorge are great hosts-charming, warm, generous and involved. They interact with all their guests effortlessly and are really interested in everyone. The decor is beautiful, breakfasts are great, but the overwhelming feeling one is left with is that you've been with goood friends! Their dog, Avril, adds to this warm, welcoming feeling. To her credit, all the guests vie over her and compete for her attention. She is just as loving as her owners. One of the three couples in our group had to stay at another B&B as the red tree house was full, but they were treated like guests and invited to join our wine get togethers with us and the other guests! Fantastic!
