“Excelent, amazing zócalo view”
Reviewed 14 January 2014 via mobile

We were attended by a sympathetic old lady, who explained the dishes to us, and served the outstanding food very quickly. The green butter that is served with the couvert bread is one of the best I've ever tasted. The prices are a little high, but the rest is worth it. I recommend the Oaxacan meat table and the lengua.

“Nostalgia”
Reviewed 5 January 2014

The Asador Vasco is an old-fashioned, gracious restaurant with white tablecloths, a strolling band of musicians and a view over the Zócalo. This is the kind of place I associate in Mexico with the faded prestige surrounding Spanish restaurants of a certain era. There is 'Spanish' food (and some Oaxacan dishes), the service is good and the atmosphere was festive and packed with tourists on Christmas vacation.

The food also is as old-fashioned as the atmosphere. The grilled rabbit was excellent; the beef tongue was good. The sauces were as nostalgic of the era as the atmosphere - thick and spicy. It is enjoyable but don't go just for the food.

“Underrated main plaza restaurant in Oaxaca,Mexico!”
Reviewed 19 December 2013

We had a comida time meal in this upstairs restaurant overlooking the main square.
We both had meat dishes and found them both excellent. The waitresses were very attentive and looked after our needs with enthusiasm.
The bathrooms were very well kept, something we criticized in another review in Oaxaca.
The choice of wines and the prices were very good, with sizes from a glass of wine through 1/4 litres and up to a bottle.
While a little expensive the location and view made up for the somewhat higher prices than you see in the town.

“Beautiful restaurant in the centre of Oaxaca”
Reviewed 24 June 2013

We ate on the balcony overlooking the main square, entertained by the troubadours passing below. We ate fantastic food, a mix of Mexican and Basque styles, wonderful wine and really good service. The price was reasonable and we left very contented.

We have no reservations at all about this restaurant.

The Asador Vasco is located in a great spot. The music, people and sounds of the zocalo are great.
The food is very good and the service too.
You can have a place in the upper level with a view of the zocalo.
