“Spectacularly beautiful hotel”
Reviewed 7 November 2013 via mobile

This hotel has been expertly restored and is spectacular inside. Staff is very attentive. Rooms are a tad small but have lovely vaulted ceilings. A bit of ambient noise in the rooms but nothing overwhelming at all (I suppose this is normal in historic buildings).

When I went to Oaxaca, I fell in love with the city. One of the highlights was a dinner celebration my friends and I had at the Quinta Real. I thought I knew luxury in America, but the Quinta showed me a different side of luxury at it's finest: elegance. The Quinta has elegance with heart infused into everything they do. The food is made with love, the service is done with heart and the hotel was created with passion. I fell in love with this hotel and will definitely be staying there exclusively on all my travels to Oaxaca, Mexico.

After reading some of these reviews i was a bit nervous about the service and the atmosphere at this gorgeous hotel. We arrived at 7am to this hotel after an overnight flight for our honeymoon. They checked us in at 7:20am, got us an upgraded room, and let us go to sleep in luxury for 3 hours before even given them our credit card. The service was incredible, the property is absolutely stunning and although the rack rates for the rooms are quite high... they were more than happy to let us stay an additional 3 days (over the weekend) at the very discounted week rate that we made through booking.com. Yes, they hosted 2 weddings while we were there, but none were disturbing and they closed up music etc by 11pm. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. Be careful of one thing... the coffee in your room, which looks like part of your room fee is actually part of the mini bar and they charge you $6 per day for a coffee... we argued that it doesnt say "mini bar" on the coffee and they reduced our coffee charges by half. That is the ONLY regret of this magnificent historical beautiful hotel. And regarding Oaxaca: what a spectacular city!! Magical in scenery, history, food and extreme generosity of the Oaxacan residents. Our honeymoon could not have been better!!!! Thank you Mexico, for another fantastic week!

Room Tip: we had room 118, which has no connecting walls to other rooms, although it is right on the garden, w...

This hotel is certainly well placed to visit Oaxaca's historic centre. It was originally a convent built in the 1600s and its common areas are exceptionally pretty and atmospheric. Unfortunately, the hotel does not concentrate on its individual guests but instead is catering to weddings (there were three the weekend we were there) and large business conventions. This is a pity because it falls down on service to its guests and the breakfasts, compared with others we enjoyed in Mexico (for example in the haciendas) fell short. As others have commented, it is expensive and the rooms vary greatly, depending on which courtyard you are in. We were initially in a room near the kitchens and the clattering, banging and shouting went on all night. They moved us the second night to a quieter room with a view to the old washing area. This was a far better room and we were happy there. However, I do not think I would stay here again - there are many other better and cheaper places in this gorgeous city.

Room Tip: Ask for an inner courtyard (not near the kitchen).

This is the old Camino Real Oaxaca. I do not see a big change between the old Camino Real and the new Quinta Real. I do not believe this Quinta Real is up to the usual standards of decor and service, specially given that it was very recently renovated and rebranded. That does not mean that this is not a nice hotel because it is - the building is fantastic and the services is great. But for users of other Quinta Real hotels (Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, Guadalajara, Monterrey) I think it will disappoint. The rooms are small, crowded and not decorated with the usual flair. The restaurant is mediocre. The location is outstanding - but the value for money is just not there. Also: they allow for weddings in the yard in front of the rooms - prepare for noise if there is an event!

Room Tip: Ask if there is a wedding in front of your room. If so - take a room very far away from the courtyar...

Estimado Enrique,

Sinceramente,

It is a beautiful hotel with great food. But it is very expensive for small and dark rooms. I won't go back. Also internet connection was sold at a prohibitive price and the signal was weak and internet slow as hell (don't count on it if you are there for business!!).

Dear Nebu,
Thank you for your comments, unfortunatelly this Hotel was an Convent 442 years ago, this is the reason that all the rooms are very smal, also this building is protected for INAH, due is the reason that we can not offer the same service like a normal building like the internet, all your comments help us to work every day to get the best for our clients.

Thank you againt for your comments and we hope to see you soon at this magic hotel.

We loved the location and the hotel itself was stunning. The pool was beautiful and we enjoyed spending a relaxing couple hours there on one of our 7 days in Oaxaca. However this hotel was wayyy overpriced. The food was okay but not as good as some of the surrounding restaurants would have been. Also extremely expensive with more than two guests. On our day at the pool we ordered three piña coladas. I believe the price of them alone ended up being $24. Ridiculous. We also requested more than two 16 oz water bottles, but they refused to give more than two a day. This policy is terrible especially with so many tourists coming through. Las golondrinas is about two blocks away and is a much cheaper yet still beautiful and comfortable option as are many others I'm sure.
